Window Clunk

Featured Replies

I went to drop the passenger side front window and all I heard was a clunk and then the window dropped part way and stopped, I can still hear the motor/regulator whirring inside the door, but no motion from the window.

The window is now permanently open, how can I get the window up so the car is secure ?

The glass carrier on the regulator has failed. If you can still get hold of the glass, you may be able to lift it manually, and it may even stay closed.

Is that an easy/cheap thing to repair or is it the whole regulator ?

You can get repair kits on eBay,

I had this a while back, it needed a new regulator.

Also depending on age of the car, you may have a riveted door carrier - make sure you get the rivets from skoda before attempting

You may be lucky and it's bolted but mine was riveted!

Repair part was the best part of £20, so not excessive. Put aside a whole day in case of issues, the hardest part is unclipping the wiring...

It's a 54 Plate

What is the likely £ damage from a garage/dealer as I need it doing asap ?

I got quoted £100 labour. Local rates may vary, and garages will usually go for a dealer supplied part, not a repair kit. I managed to get the window up and duct taped it in place until I could sort it out.

Is it a different repair kit for an electric window rather than a manual one ?

No it's the same.
