Octavia VRS CR Diesel Timing Belt change

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm new to this site and have searched on previous threads about my question but couldn't find any answers.

My question is that I have just purchased a 2009 VRS Diesel Octavia with the CR engine, it has full main dealer history and on 50'000 miles on it. However there is no record of the timing belt being changed. Am I correct in thinking that it is either 120'000 miles or 4 years when the belt is recommended for a change? What are the general sort of costs for this job if anyone else on here has had this work done recently, thanks in advance!!

I think they now say 5 years, not sure on mileage? Everyone seems to have different opinions some leaving it for 100k no matter how many years it takes. I have the same year car and mileage and I think I will get mine done at this years service. The most you should pay with a water pump is £459 with skoda fixed price servicing but a independent will do it for less. Think I will let skoda do mine and try to talk them down on price just because of the 2 year parts warranty.

I'm getting mine done on Tuesday as I've just over 115k, so I shall let you know how much it costs...Mine is going in to Lion Garage Hinckley.

On a 2009 car the time interval is still 4 years.

The 5 year interval only applies to cars built from 2011.

Mileage seems to vary, fuelled purely by the differing numbers floated about on here and by poorly informed dealers.

It should say in the service handbook in the glovebox.

Or you could simply ring Skoda UK with your reg number / VIN on 08457 745745, option 4.

Or email them for a 24 hour response:

Got mine done at circa 57000 and 5 years a few months ago - no previous record of it been changed, either.

Saved £100 off Skoda's fixed price by going to a respected VAG Indy, inclusive of OEM parts.

Good idea to do the water pump at the same time -  When removed and inspected, mine had started to disintegrate!  :o

Cheers guys for the rapid response, I think I'll just bite the bullet and get a new one fitted along with waterpump and auxillary belt all in one hit, bloody awesome car and well worth protectiing!!

Well, I've had a rethink on the Lion Garage scenario...I called them on Friday to ask if they'd do the water pump as well and got quoted £360 for parts, £200 for fitting. Since when do Indys charge more than a main dealer fixed price service?

Made a few calls and have a friend of a friend (who's a VAG specialist also) doing it for £380 all in this Sunday.

£360 for parts, are you sure?

£160 for parts + £200 fitting = £360 sounds much more likely.

The parts include a belt, tensioner and pulley's and the water pump and coolant. No where near £360, even for non-trade genuine Skoda prices.

I'd ring them back up and clarify.

He told me £200 for labour and then £360 for parts...Initially I thought he meant £360 all in, which i was happy ok with. I said "So that's £360 all in?" and was told no, the £360 is just the parts cost.

Hence my choice to take it elsewhere. I'm quite sad about it really, they've always been pretty reasonable in the past.

Ask him where he sources his gold plated water pumps from!
