1.2 TSI(86 bhp) capacity of fuel tank & miles to a tankful

Featured Replies

As the title really. I am thinking of swapping from a diesel Monte Carlo Tech which is giving an average of over 60 mpg( just over 600 miles to a 10 gallon tank) to a TSI Rapid.

My reasons for changing are that I'd prefer the extra space and in particular boot space and I have an option to change which will enable me to buy the Rapid rather than the current PCP on the Fabia at a lower monthly cost than at present albeit with a deposit from savings.

I don't expect to obtain the same mpg as the Fabia but I am looking to ascertain what people are getting in the real world so that I can take this into account in my calculations/decision.

My mileage is 95% commute which is around 48 miles a day 5 days a week. With about 40 of those on the motorway at relatively low speeds due to congestion at max of 50/60 mph, about 5/6 miles on country B roads and the other 2/3 miles urban commute. Does anyone with a similar mileage profile have a 1.2TSI?

600 miles from a 10 gallon tank?  You run the tank dry!  Or is it 9.8, or 9.5, or 9 gallons per 600 miles?  Probably a different amount every time you fill up.  So your actual mpg is some indeterminate value, but better than 60mpg.

I do run the tank to very nearly empty and purposely phrased it loosely rather than stating an actual mpg figure. But I am confident in my mpg figures over more than 25 tankfulls of diesel!

If you have checked it over 25 re-fills of the tank that's a different matter and your total mileage divided by actual fuel used should give an accurate overall mpg.

My commute is ~25 miles each way, 17 miles on the motorway @ 60 and the rest A roads/dual carriageways with varying speed limits & congestion levels. Work accounts for the majority of my mileage, the only difference is I'm in the 105PS engine not the 86PS.
