Octy VRS handling

Featured Replies

Ok so i've had the VRS a few weeks and very happy with it. My biggest issue at the minute is handling. Just doesn't fill me with confidence when a try a bit of spirited driving.

My question is where to start? FARB, RARB, shocks and springs? Any reccomendations.

I'm not a millionaire so anything on a budget is a winner for me.

Cheers

RARB is usually the first step and supposedly is the best mod you can do. Whiteline is probably the cheapest option.

It's on my list...

RARB

Tyres?

Well, the vRS has an uprated FARB relative to normal models, but the same RARB, so it is probably in need of a bit more rear roll stiffness to rebalance it.

Also, and cheaper, you can try braking deeper into the turns, so you're not coming off the brakes until you're turning the steering, which kills front end roll transfer delay since the outside spring is compressed. Having said that, if you chuck it in the scenery doing this, it's your fault and not mine!

Rarb, the Mrs noticed it straight away but still hasn't noticed the coil overs lol

My first mod was a Whiteline rarb, transforms the rear end.

Love that! Which brand coilovers?

golf r32 front end, 25mm farb, 28mm rarb and coilovers.... You'll feel confident then.....

Got a set of weitecs, dunno how she hasn't realised, she moans about it being low and about how it hates speed bumps, but hasn't realised that it happened to become like that after me and my m8 spent the day playing with it lol.

With the rarb after 5 mins in the car she says "you've done something, it goes round corners better".

Did the rarb first, but both times she hasn't got a clue what I've been buying lol

As mentioned a RARB will make a big difference and a lot will depend on the tyres you have, after that you could look at new springs and shocks and then bushes.

I'm looking at getting coilovers for mine but being a 53 plate I don't know which ones I need as the chassis code is supposedly 1u but I'm not too sure.any advice?

It's a vrs by the way.

1U chassis is correct but need to be vRS specific as non vrs ones don't have the ARB on the shock.

Damain at DPM is your best bet great customer service I found.

On a side note a upgraded rear anti roll is better than coil overs for improving the handling. It's on my shopping list when I get some spare cash.
