ContiPremiumContact 5 - poor in the wet

Featured Replies

Most Skoda’s I’ve owned of recent have come with ContiPremiumContact 2 tyres fitted and while they seem to wear reasonably well and provide decent grip in the dry, I have never been happy with their wet performance.

Therefore when our Octy III came with the new ContiPremiumContact 5 I hoped Continental might have improved their design in this area. However after nearly 3k on these tyres I’m beginning to feel they are even worse, as you can notable sence the tyres drag where there is any standing water on the roads and if there is any depth to that water the steering wheel feels as if it’s been pulled this way and that as the tyres fail to cope with clearing the water.

Not a tyre I would recommend and I’ll be pleased to get back onto the Bridgestone Blizzak winters in the autumn, which works far better in the wet.

I run the contact 5 sport in a 205/40/17 and find them excellent in the wet? No under steer no wheel spin no aqua planing even at 130 mph on a very wet autobahn ?

I've lost count of how many tyres I've had in the last 133 k miles but rank these as one of the best. Also these are the only tyres I've bought twice ? Maybe they don't suit certain cars?

I had contact 5 sport as well never heard of premium they were excellent and come 3rd in wet weather out of evo summer tests. Cars fitted with standard rubber have less tyre depth than same brand aftermarket. Only reason I did not buy again is a set is 640 now. Got eagle f1s now 510 a set

Pleased to hear the SportContact tyre design is OK but for me anyway, their Premium pattern is not the best.

+1 for the SportContact 5 been excellent on the SLK.

+2 for sport contact 5  on my mk1 vrs,  very good tyre in poor conditions, and good in dry too.

Love the Conti SC5's here too. I've got 4 on the car in the sig. Plenty of grip in all weathers. I know there are a few tyres that come out better than them in tests - however having experienced them I'll be sticking with them going forward.
