Radio doing as it pleases

Featured Replies

Can anyone help. I'm going mad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dance radio in Roomster has suddenly decided to have a mind of it's own.

Most recent problem is that I have to take the fuse out every time I leave the car as the radio stays on even when the ignition key is out.

When i get back in I put the fuse back in. Radio says "Safe" and then "0000".

Sometimes when I then put the key in and start up, the radio plays but won't switch off when the key is removed.

Sometimes the radio doesn't play and the 0000 remains on the display. After a period of time the radio then comes on but again won't switch off when the key is removed.

It all points to the radio not needing a code as it does work without inputting a code sometimes, but why won't it switch off?

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I think you will find the code is stored in the ECU or instrument cluster and the radio picks it up when the ignition is turned on

I am assuming your car is out of warranty?

looks like the on/off knob on the radio might be duff, did you fancy a new radio?

Hi

Yes it's out of warranty.

I did wonder about the on/off knob. Might see if a car radio repair place could have a look at the HU and get an estimate for repair.

Just don't understand how the unit can work sometimes and not others.

Have also wondered if whether a code from Skoda would kickstart the HU into working although as you say it should never need a code as the ECU know's it's the factory fitted HU.

Thanks

I now have the radio code which a Skoda dealer in Rochdale kindly got for me free of charge.

Unfortunately this still hasn't cured the problem. I still have to pull the fuse when i leave the car, otherwise the radio stays on. On/off knob doesn't swith it off.

Sometimes when I put the fuse in the radio comes up with "PHONE" on the display
