Things to look out on collection day...

Featured Replies

Hi guys. I know this topic might have been covered before. I would still like hear your views and experiences of collecting new Skoda Mark III 2014 octavia elegance 2.0 TDi. I am not sure what things I should be looking out for. I m collecting my car next week :-/

Thank Neil! That would be my first thing on the list :-p

Inspect bodywork and interior, make sure all your options are there. Check for transport blocks in front suspension, they are hidden under the piston covers. Check tyre pressures are not insanely high.

Check you have a TDI and not a TSI :D

Check the brake lights work (both that they come on and that they aren't permanently on).

When the engine starts check that the rear view mirror isn't wobbling like jelly!

Cracking paint in the roof gutters (based on previous issues).

Most importantly, be 100% happy with the car and check thoroughly against your order form and (if you got one) a brochure from the time of order.  Don't get carried away with "new car fever"; if something isn't exactly as you expect, don't sign for it.  The dealer doesn't get paid until you do...and it's much harder to get items fixed after you drive away.

I've signed a finance form when I ordered the car. Not sure if that binds me in contract of purchase....?

Only if it is as sold...Finance approval will only be issued (the actual payment) on delivery which will be your acceptance of the car.

Congrats exactly the same car as mine, good choice :-)

WIth reference to the transport block, can you check these whilst the car is still at the dealers or do you need to jack it up to see the springs. Is it just on the front or front and back? I am paranoid about this after reading the stories on here and I want to make sure I can tell before I sign if possible.

No jack needed, you can just about get to the piston cover with the car on the floor. Might be slightly easier with the wheels at full lock. Failing that, you'll soon notice them if they are there when you are driving!

Edit, sorry just seen. I only had problems with the fronts, I don't think anyone has had an issue with the rears

I managed to get 5 years GAP insurance for less than they were wanting for 3 years, my dealer said he realised they weren't competitive with the prices. I think they just rely on people who don't research into it a bit more?

I got mine from www.gapinsurance123.co.uk

No don't take GAP from the dealer, it's a rip off. Shop around on the internet, like Shermo said you'll get a much better deal. I personally got mine from ALA insurance for my vRS and previously my BMW. Also be aware of the different types of GAP such as Return to Invoice and Vehicle Replacement etc

I queried this as I was hoping to knock it down to around the £100 mark. I was told there are lots of things to look out for as post above explains. I decided no to go with it as my Ins' company pay purchase price in full for first 12mths, at 18mths the cars only worth about half what you paid for it so there is only 6mths high risk. I will give it more thought after a year.

I thought you only get gap insurance for a certain time after you purchase the car. As far as I know there is a time limit you are able to buy GAP. It's 120/180 days with ala depending on the plan.

Yes Tiger I think you are correct on the time limit, not entirely sure on that exact time limit and how many days from the point of first registration, that may vary from company to company
