Please, please, please start 'Stickies' for DSG & Oil issues.

Featured Replies

There are so many NEW & UNIMPROVED threads about the DSG oil change and engine oil issues (consumption, type, quantity, dipping) on the Fabia. Wouldn't it make sense to have two detailed appropriate 'Stickies' written by someone knowledgeable and with a good grasp of English and then to merge in all the repetitive past and future related threads. People can then easily find the most significant and useful information.

Just a suggestion . . . ;)

Checking whether DSG oil need changing:

Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the following website page: http://www.skoda-auto.com.kw/service/recall-campaign.  The VIN can usually be seen somewhere at the bottom of the windscreen from outside the car.  The work takes about two hours and you will probably notice no difference following the oil change and ECU update.

Oil consumption issues:

Skoda state that oil consumption of up to ½ litre of engine oil per 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) can be expected.  If your car consumes more than that, you may with some difficulty get Skoda to do something about it following an oil consumption test.  If your car consumes less than ½ litre of oil per 1,000 kilometres you will probably not be able to get anything done about it at Skoda's expense.

Reading the dipstick is not particularly easy:

  • It is hard to read because the areas are not particularly well defined.
  • The manual is not clear as to where the various areas A, B & C are in relation to the hatched area.
  • The manual gives no indication as to how much oil would be required to move the level from the bottom to the top of the hatched area perhaps ½ litre?
  • In theory you should take a reading with the oil at a temperature of 80°C, five minutes after switching off and with the car on a level surface.  This 'hot dip' idea is crazy and is almost certainly chosen for the convenience of grease monkeys; learn what it should be when stone cold dipped and check that way.

Skoda advise that the correct quantity of oil is 3.6 litres and they say that you should not exceed that amount. Castrol Edge FST 5W-30 seems a reasonable choice but it MUST conform with the specification VW 504 00.

It may or may not be sensible to rely on the oil warning light - the jury is still out on that one.

It is more than likely that attempting to resolve the high oil consumption issues was considered when VAG/Skoda replaced the CAVE engine with the CTHE engine sometime in 2012.

Thanks for the suggestion, this is from the member with extensive hands-on knowedge and personal ownership.

Living daily with the dynamics of the two issues mentioned.

I believe it is better to have indivdual raised threads, which are personalized .

Can anyone  please find a Skoda UK VIN Checker for Fabia Mk2's. ?

Something that shows which UK vehicles need 'Field Actions'.

New Zealand like other Countries had Recalls or Service Campaigns which were advertised and made public by Skoda.

http://skoda.co.uk/news/dsg-service-campaign

There is no 'Recall' in the UK for DSG DQ200,  just a 'Service Campaign'.

There are other 'Service Campaign', items.  Heated Seats, Wiring Looms etc

Thanks for the link for entering the VIN number. Mine is due a DSG oil change. I'll book it in tomorrow.

My pleasure - glad to have helped :)

I think this particular post should be a "stickie" because the link could help a lot of people out.

I really think there needs to be Stickies on the 1.4 TSI Twincharger Issues, & the DQ200 DSG Issues.

No idea what VXH26 has done about this,

like speaking to the Forum Owner or the Volkswagen Group Management to get the latest information from them,

maybe some Statement or Press release would be good.

Lets Hope VXH26 can get on with it and have the Latest Information for Owners on this Forum.

He seem keen on it, and deserves the support to have the full information available to anynoe doing an Online Search.
