Check your bottom crank pulley!

Featured Replies

Where to start......?

Right, recently i had an engine rattle which was reported by a very reputable tuner/builder (not on here!) to be a knackerd A/C pump!

I was advised it would be fine and I was safe to drive it as it was. So a couple of weeks ago I went to Scotland. On the way back I lost the crank pulley (all 4 bolts snapped clean off!) that drives the auxilliary belt somewhere near Preston on the M6.

I got towed home and managed to get the car into a local garage to have the lower pulley replaced along with the cambelt, cam gear for cambelt, all new bolts, aux belt and tensioners!!

As soon as the guy started the car the noisy A/C pump was totally silent!

The moral of this story is if you suspect your A/C pump is on its way out, take a good look at your bottom pulley to make sure it's not going to fall off! I was lucky, any amount of fallout could have shredded my cambelt and ruined my engine. I replaced the cambelt today anyway to be on the safe side even though it was 1 year old!

Take note peeps.....I don't want any of you to go through this! ;-)

Good advice thanks
