Youngest Mk1 ever..

Featured Replies

So i forgot to post this yesterday,

I was on my way from Portloaise to home yesterday, and passing through the little, now bypassed, town of Durrow,

I spied a very rare thing - a Maroon ish coloured mk 1 Octavia - reg number for 2010!!

4 digit following number meaning it was registered around mid year.

It mustve been the last one let off main land europe, and been kept in a shed for a couple of yrs before it was even registered!?

anyone know of a "younger" mk 1 than that?

They built them for taxi's for years after the mk2 came out

I've seen a few 2008-2009 taxi's

Yeah we have a 2008 mk1 taxi :-)

Yep got a few 2008-2010 taxis round here too

Not familiar with the Irish registration process (other than knowing what the plates mean, of course) - but could it have been one whose age was indeterminable and therefore registered on the day, so to speak?

Pre 2013 -

07 - TS- 1234

Yr - County - Consecutive number in order of registration starting at 1 each yr, in that county - eg mine is 2808 thus, 2,807 new cars were registered in my county prior to mine.

Post 2013

131 - TS - 1234

Jan 1st -June 30th 2013 - County - etc

132 - TS - 1234

July 1st - Dec 31st 2013 - County - etc

Any imported, used vehicle is then registered to the year of 1st reg in whatever country it was brought in from,

the new owners county of residence, and the next number on the list for that year.

so, i don't think there would be a reason for not knowing where it came from.

Just thought it was amazing to see such a young mk1, i know they kept taxi spec making them for a long time,

but i thought it was only up to 2007... they must've made hundreds for stockpiling and shipping after manufacturing stopped!

theres a 2008 mk 1 in my town up here in donegal.... saw a 04 mk2 today which got me wondering!!!!

also there has been a change in the import reg numbers, they are registered from 11000 up ( 07 DL 11XXX)  now for some reason...  probably easier to identify, or less desirable to have a high digit number...   to stem the import of cars from NI ...  revenue purposes i assume...

Thought I was getting mixed up seeing the odd mk1 on 05 and 07 reg's every now and then! (mainly when looking to buy one.. 2008 mk1 diesel with 180k on the clock.. hmmm!)
