Strange DSG behaviour after Service/Recall

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I had my DSG recall/Service on Tuesday.

Car has been fine until an odd thing happened while joining the motorway this morning.

I went to accelerate from the slip road entering lane 1 and found that I had no drive. The DSG was changing down and then up but the power was not there. The revs were rising very slowly and wouldn't go above 4k.

It was almost like the car was in neutral or very down on power.

No error lights were displayed and the car sounded ok. I then got some acceleration back but still felt down on power.

I took it steady for a minute and then tried using the kick down on 50% throttle to shift into 5th the car picked up and seemed ok.

I also got my spark plugs changed and went from the old spec plugs to the revised VW plugs.

Very weird as the car was fine before and after this incident. Could it be plug related? Or DSG related?

  • Let's be honest every man appreciates the feel of a tight, well lubed 'box.

  • ffft. mine get done this afternoon :( hope they dont ruin the car, as its working perfectly at the monent ....

  • well, had it done, and driven a fair bit, cant tell any difference, so hopefully all is well!

No misfire?

Must be DSG related, would be interested to here what George thinks on this one.

Was the ECU reprogrammed after oil change?

No error lights came on, didn't feel like a misfire, engine sounded normal. Just felt like very little power. The DSG shifted down then up like it was confused.

Yes I saw the car hooked up and the tech explained that after the oil change it gets plugged in and the software is updated.

What are these "revised VW Spark Plugs" ?

What Numbers for them on the invoice?

...........

Interested to hear from anyone that knows of any changes made by Skoda/VW to the Service Schedule for the

Twincharger Spark Plugs, reducing the 40,000 miles schedule,

or recommending different Spark Plugs.

03c905601B are the new ones fitted.

No change there.

http://findpart.org/part/vw-03c905601b

Best just see how it goes.

Give the DSG time to learn your style again.

But if the Engine does prove to be down on power,

then back to them to find out why.

There does seem to be some that are concerned how the car goes after the Skoda Dealerships have done the 'Field Action on the DSG.

Personally, since there is no Recall, & since it is not 'Safety Critical', and no Publicity from Skoda to advice owners that do not contact Skoda Dealers for Services,

i will not be letting them any place near a perfect running Engine and Gearbox.

'If there is a 'Recall' to Registered Keepers that is different, then Skoda/VW must be accepting that the DSG needs

the Changes doing.

.............

On the DSG Service Campaign Field Action.

?

Is it written up in the Service Manual & a new Sticker you can see under the bonnet, to say it has been changed

from Synthetic to Mineral oil in the DSG.?

I would place on record, with the dealerships Master Tech ,via e-mail and phone, your description of the malfunction anyway, to create the history file.

However, you feel that it's running okay now, but that it's just the unknown that niggles.

As George suggest, may be it relates to the re-computing/resettling of the driving style- how far have you driven since the Service Campaign update?

Mine was performing beautifully before the service and after seemed the same if a little smoother. This little blip this morning has made me a little concerned I will admit.

I had done 130 miles since the service at the time and then a further 20 since the issue. Car was back to its usual self.

If we assume the DSG is OK, maybe slightly different change points after the ECU update.

(there shouldnt be though.)

Think about the Plugs and just pay attention to them for now.

Did the Tech say to you,

'These are revised Spark Plugs we fitted'?

Anyway.

If by chance there is a 'Mis-fire',  it might not show either of the 2 lights, or Log a Code.

Unless enough misfires in one cycle.

If you want to see how it is,

With the Car warmed up,

then try some Full Bore Accelerations, maybe above 50 mph,

where you are dropping a couple of gears on kick down, or Manual down changes,

getting it down to about 3,000 rpm so it is on Super & Turbo and under load,

if there is any mis-fire or it is down on power you might well feel it there, from 3,000 -3,500, then on Turbo to 5,200 rpm or above.

I was told that they are the revised spark plugs for the engine and are different to the ones they took out. (I have them)

The issue happened around the 3k mark and at the time I was using the part kickkdown (not the stupid fill blown red line one)

I will are how she gets on later and report back.

Quite worried now as mine is due in the next couple of weeks and will they check to see if the car has been mapped as mine has before software update or will they just overwrite it. Also warrenty about to expire with mot and 3 year service brake fluid should be changed under service plan.

Does your Service Plan say that,  'Replacing Break Fluid' is included,

the 3rd service is a 'Minor Service'.

If you car is going OK,

then ask if 'The DSG Service Campaign Field Action',  'must be done'.

There is no Recall.

and if there is no Field Action Carried out, are Skoda/VW going to be taking responsibility

for DSG Problems into the future.

In other countries they put 100,000 mile Extended Warranties on DSG's,

No word in the UK what is Happening,

what Skoda Accept as being their Responsibility. and if they are doing Goodwill Gestures into the future

only where they do Oil & DSG ECU Updates now.

Was told by dealer due brake fluid change as its coming up to 3 yrs old only 17,000 mls though and I had the service plan transfered over in my name by previous owner/dealer so not sure if is included and does it cover cost of mot thanks. Sorry to hijack thread not sure about starting new ones and value your comments george.

The Brake Fluid is due the change @ 3 years,

and if you are not asked for an extra £45 or so, that is good.

well, had it done, and driven a fair bit, cant tell any difference, so hopefully all is well!

Good, as it should be,

it would be a major Skoda-VWG fail if cars are given work as preventative measures,

and then end up  with a car not performing as well as before this minor Technical Procedure was done.

No way should customers accept any Skoda Dealership acting on the instructions of Skoda to carry out work,

be landed with a car not performing perfectly.

Where owners have had DSG Issues, faults or loss of power,

that should be brought up with SKODA UK for being Investigated & Rectified, and not lumped in as going to be resolved

by the Service Campaign being done on the DQ200.

It may need Proper Investigation by a Specialist,. Mechatronic Control Replaced or the likes.

Went out for a blast, car performed perfectly! I'm going to put this down to an anomaly of some sort. I'm going to keep an eye on her.....

I like that as the name for the upcoming Fabia Mk2 replacement.

The new 'Skoda Anomaly'

 beats

Skoda Fabia MK2 FL part 2.

Just to add my experience. Can't give the full story but my car is not well. Heard back from Suk today after they had spoken to technical. They are not aware of any issues arising from the campaign. Although they have my car. Have had so since 3 days after I had it done. I think I've just bought an absolute dog to be honest. I will update as I get more info.

My car stutters judders, has a small seizure. I don't know. I lost all power. Tried to get out of a roundabout and nothing.

I have said to skoda that I think it is my clutch packs. That possibly the recall or whatever it really is has shown up the issue even more that I have been trying to tell them about for 3 months. But everytime I couldn't replicate it so in their eyes it never happened.

As I said before I will update when I can.

Is this after the Replacement engine going in,  that there are DSG Issues.

or was everything OK there, but just some noise issues.?

or just after them doing the DSG Field Action.?

Or was it always a combination of Engine & DSG problems from when you bought it?

??

Are Skoda UK putting you back to the Dealership that Replaced the Engine and saying it is for them to sort out?

...................................................................

About time they had Factory Engineers or Technicians Examining cars that Owners have issues with

after UK Skoda Dealerships have worked on them..

well, I sat and watched the work being done from the "veiwing area" , and it was as simple as, put the car up on the lift, carck the bottom bolt, drop the oil.... leave for a time to drain.... re-apply the bottom bolt... clean all surfaces.... lower car.... opent top through bonnet, use "tool" to fill gearbox back up, seal again... download new software (took some time), update....... do whatever the "drive car and  setup" thing is..... clean and vacuum car, hand back.... spoke to mechanic too.... he said he thinks skoda re just "covering their arse" as he has seen no inherant problems with the DSG 7...

all good..... I have driven about 10 miles on normal auto... still get the same "creep" still get the same reactions.... driven 4 mile on my "blast" road home in manual (wringing its neck) and all works well...

I will update if there are any problems....

edit : forgot , I think the "flushed" the gearbox from the bottom before putton the bottom bolt back on....

Are we going to be seeing the start of "Gearbox oil change update FUBAR'd my DSG" threads? Hope not lol!

Don't know if ours is due the oil change but seeing as the engine and box runs sweet as a nut I don't think I'll bother finding out just yet.

sounds a little like the issues im having with mine although ive not had the oil changed

ive been asking then to look at my brakes for months, get clicking noise and more recently car appears to jump out of gear, no power or anything and when initially setting off from cold i get a judder but like you they cant find the fault as it behaves for them

ive been informed they've 'reset' the brakes as prompted by Skoda tech, not UK dept, but design dept

they've had it 4 days now, if i had to keep count of all the days they've had the car id need a calculator to add em all up
