Limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi Peeps

I have a octavia vrs 2002, when I start the car and run it seems to go into limp mode and the

when a switch it off again and back on it then is back to normal with full boost.

Does anyone know what possible causes this could be please?

Thanks

Gareth

Could be many things. You need to get a diagnostic done.

Sticking VNT

Hi how do you solve the sticking VNT issue?

Gareth

Do you have a cel light on?

HI Meaty, There are no lights coming on at all.  Just seems so odd

Sticking VNT's is a TDI issue not a problem on 1.8T's.

I would expect your problem will most likely be a boost/vacuum leak, but like I said earlier you need to get a diagnostic done as without that it's all pure conjecture.

I'm in Limp Mode, I've a poorly left foot       :(

As above get it scanned for faults.  In the mean time check all the pipework under the bonnet for splits.

17705 code (pressure drop between turbo & throttle body) is very common on VAG 1.8T's & doesn't always put the EML on, but it will put the ECU into limp, which will disappear on cycling the ignition.

17705 can be a pita to track down, but split boost/vacuum pipework around the inlet manifold is a prime suspect.

Thanks Pauldazzle,  I will have a check on the pipe around that area.  Before having a diagnostics test. Gareth

Get some cheap carb cleaner, remove the plastic engine covers and with the engine running spray all the pipes, you'll notice the engine trying to stall if you have any split pipes

Listen for hissing too. The S pipe under the manifold is a very common failure which you can hear hissing if it splits.

Hi Pauldazzle

I seem to get a hissing sound when I turned engine off, but cant hear anything when running. Is the manifold at

the front?

Inlet manifold.

Sometimes the AC will hiss on shut, but if its off you could be on to the problem.

Hi Pauldazzle

I checked the pipes and there was a split pipe coming out of the top of  dump valve (4mm-5mm) pipe I have now replaced that.  Would that of caused the limp mode issue as I haven't run

the car as yet?

Thanks

Gaz

Yep could of caused limp mode as it can trigger the dreaded 17705 code.

... this issue sounds very similar to what my car is doing now. Will check the vacuum hoses for splits.

are there any common pipes i would look at first?

on my to do list now.. for boost pipe leeks, you sometimes see an oily mark appearing close to the leek, check around the route of the pipework for any oily clues!

..a bit like the dump valve snot you sometimes see around atmospheric dump valves if that helps?
