  • THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR A SKODA OCTAVIA

  • Here you go. Manuals are pretty rare but early autos have G'box issues. It's a 3.0i petrol sport, avoided diesel as turbos and swirl flaps in the manifold are known faults. The car will do mostly

Not sure me self to be honest have to check it out.

Don't underestimate the V8 X5s they are surprisingly quick and sound awesome. True many big 4x4s are driven by barbies with more money than sense, but the X5 unlike the Range Rovers are very good on road. Mine has good handling on twisty roads and gives a few hot hatches a surprise on how hard it can be pushed in the corners.

That said it's still underpowered, unfortunately the S6 Avant I looked at today was very rough and wasn't worth the 4k asking price.

The search continues may just keep the X5 and supercharge it [emoji12]

It is not about what power or engine it has from my perspective ,   it is the looks that i just don't like.

each to their own buddy,

A guy at work has a RS6 early shape and that is rapid

Chris are Superchips still there where the A63 meets Clive Sully by Glaxo? Because chipping it is an option

Well almost 3months to the day and think I'll be selling the X5. It's a lovely car and was great on our summer camping trips but it's so gutless wish I had got the V8. So looking at audi S6 avant with the 4.2 V8 engine, anyone got any buying tips before I head out on the hunt. Don't suggest try the audi forums as it seems they full of w+*$€&S

Cheers Chris

Just looked up the specs.

It's actually slower than my old Cordoba PD130 and with almost the same torque... but probably weighing a lot more!

As for the v8 (the 4.4 Auto) It still only managed 0-60 in 7.3 and the same top speed of 128mph. Torque sees a nice increased from 300nm to 440nm though! And as you say... the sound!

I'd still be more tempted with a BMW 330d or what about a VW Phaeton 3.0 V6 TDI?!

Yeah pioneer tuning is still there but heard a few horror stories about them awhile ago so always stayed well clear. I've looked on R-tech's website and they do a remap/chip for the M54 engine so may be a trip to Hinckley is in order.

Yeah the V8 torque is the key mate when shifting a big lump like the X5. I was put off the 330d by the constant turbo worries and injector faults. I worked in a BMW indy for a while and the 3.0 d engine has it's issues and most are expensive.

The M54 in mine is pretty solid just the crankcase breather and usual BMW water pump issues. Both these are fairly cheap if your a good d.i.y. mechanic.

Also forgot to mention I'm a diesel phobe.... sooner have a big petrol as I don't do many miles.

Cool. What's your budget?

Phil

A guy at work had an lpg conversion done on his v8 4.4 x5  he loves it we also sell lpg its only 60+ per litre, he bought it cheap as not many people want heavy v8s got the conversion done for £1800 now its paying him back big time .

I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't already converted V8s up for sale.

That would be your best bet.

Loads of v8 converted ones for sale problem is reliability of the lpg system. Some are better than others. Another issue is the engines ability to run on lpg as some alloy cylinder heads suffer valve seat regression both Honda and Toyota have issued bulletins warning of this potential problem. Not heard of many BMW engines with this but still a long term worry.

I haven't really got a set budget and I'm gonna stick with the X5 as the lack of poke isn't really a massive issue as most of the time I'm driving with the kids in the car anyway.
