Where is aftermarket alarm fitted?

Featured Replies

When I purchased my 1999 1.8 20v octavia estate, one of the previous owners had fitted an aftermarket alarm kit. There is a red LED next to the gearbox and some wires coming off from it, which I don't think is standard.

Anyway, the last owner didn't know anything about it apparently. Where would I look to find the alarm? Is it fitted behind the dash do you know? I'm hoping to be able to find it and re-program it with a new set of keys? It doesn't flash when car is off (obviously because it's not been armed).

Yeh I`ve not looked into mine.  But mine stopped working all of a sudden.  I have a little button near the gear stick and there was a light fitted in one of the blanking plates near the ASR button.  Haven`t got a clue where the alarm system is located.

I'd just leave it alone if I was you and get a new one fitted. Spent 3 hours on my brother in law's clio after he wondered what a hidden button did a few days after he brought it lol

The alarm module could be anywhere, it depends on where the fitter decided to put it. If the alarm was fitted by a thatcham authorised centre then even if you find it you'll struggle to remove it as the wiring will all be plain coloured so difficult to identify what would need to be connected to what.

Mine is fitted above the glovebox.

If it is a good quality system fitted by someone who knows how to fit them properly it could take hours to find and even longer to remove.
