Tyre pressure in PSI?

Featured Replies

So I wanted to check my tyre pressure on my 2011 TSI VRS, and I'm used to doing in PSI. Find the label by the petrol cap and it's got this:

The tyres are 225/40 R18 so that's 200 kPa front, 210kPa back according to that and using some converter online that's 29 & 30 PSI respectively. I've had a look round on here first though and I've seen mention of people going more for the 32-34 range? Plus, and I know it's a different car, but my old Civic Sport was always 32/34 so this just sounds low for some reason... So, am I reading it right and the recommended is what I worked it out as?

Take the figures in bar rather than KPa and multiply by 15 for PSI.

Also, not every make of tyre needs the same pressures on a givem make and model, and weight, wheel width and suspension geometry all have effects on best pressure for a specific make and model.

I've seen mention of people going more for the 32-34 range?

Yes......notice the next column suggests 2.3 Bar for carrying a full load of people/bags.....that is 34.5 psi.

In reality you can play around with the pressures within reason according to your personal preference.....For instance I like to go for higher pressure (34 psi) to get slightly better fuel economy at the slight expense of ride quality.

Thanks, makes more sense now. I'm just not used to change having had my last car for the best part of ten years is all  :D

I run 36psi usually.

I take the manufacturers recommendation as being a minimum rather than an absolute and experiment from there.

2.2 bar (32 psi) all round unless full of passengers, then rear tyres up to 2.3 bar (about 33.5 psi)

Seems to work

I run 34 psi all round (225/40/18 )
