Help, what should I do?

Featured Replies

As you may have seen, I'm returning to the brand after having a Mk1 Octavia VRS a few years back. I loved the car and regretted selling it, but it wasn't the best example and it had a chequered past.

So earlier this we decided we need a family car, requirements were estate 4WD, not too expensive to run, but something that will hold my interest. I went through small 4x4's (boring) Audi A6 possibly allroad (expensive should things need fixing) Subaru Legacy (engine worries) VW Passatt (not 4WD). I didn't consider the Occy' 4x4 as you don't see allot of them, and I wasn't sure what I could find for my money.

Searching all the websites, I came across a mk1 Octavia 4x4, one owner, full service history, tow ball, dog guard, 62,000miles. I was a distance away but looked good and I knocked a couple of hundred off the the price over the phone. I decided to get the cash together, tap my dad up for a lift and make the 120 trip to take a look. I must admit when I first saw it I wasn't excited, she's a bit dull. But we looked around it and it was clearly a good car. All factory parts fitted, including spare bulb kit. I decided to but the car when I was looking through the paperwork, and saw the receipt for the new car with all the extras and the bulb kit listed.

Drove it home, and it was nice, fast enough, better than I remember the VRS although the is a ? as to weather it's been chipped. It has clearly been sitting around, as the disc's have some heavy rusting, so the brakes aren't as good as they should be. Everything works, even the original radio.

My question I put to the forum is, what do I do to it???????

With such an original car, should I leave it that way? I'm worried I may get bored, as she's a bit of a wall flower.

I'm thinking of TT 17' wheels, VRS front bumper and steering wheel, leather Recaro seats. I'm going to leave the ride height, as I like the ground clearance.

One thing is for sure, I need to do pads and disks. I was thinking of doing the 315mm disc conversion, is it just the calliper carrier brackets that need replacing? Could someone help me with part numbers and where/how to buy?

I'll post some pic's up when I figger out how.

It's so quiet in here, I'm scared.

A forum this size, and no opinions, must be a first.

Not sure what's req for the brake conversion. Usual mods are remap, rear anti roll bar upgrade, then really it's up to how much you wanna spend. All the mk4 cars can be used for parts seat cupra r seats are nice and usually cheaper than golf leather recaros.

I would do as DGW suggests... keep it as standard as possible, excluding the remap - if it has been chipped, god knows what its doing...

and keep it mint - not going to many of them around soon enough, and it'd be nice to have a few proper clean examples of the car around into the future :)

Do what you want to it, it's your car! Really depends how deep your pockets are and what sort of car you want to end up with, if you want stealth leave standard looking. Otherwise do it to whatever your taste is, nobody elses! There are a couple in the projects section that should give some inspiration! Anti roll bars and sorting the remap would be first port of call!

Put the VRS 312mm brakes up front.

Change the drab interior

make it what you want it to be buddy.

you will get so many suggestions. It is your car do what you feel

If it were mine it would be a VRS copy and a Audi TT beater,  as I always wanted a fast 4x4 since owning a Subaru WRX

Have a look at my gallery and profile - you could take it where you want mate. In a way I'm a little envious as mine would be awesome with 4x4!

Never been a better time to tune the Octy 4x4 given the hardware that's avialable for them now

Much better tuning base than any other mk4 chassis 4WD version, imho

Can anyone help me out with the 312mm caliper bracket part numbers, or where to buy them?

I need to replace the discs anyway, so I may as well wait and put the bigger ones on, just need the brackets.
