erratic timing -relays switches

Featured Replies

hi guys

just investigating erratic timing leading to juddering and loss of power- as soon as i switch off and on  car is back to normal

I have recently had similar problems, which led to damaged exhaust valves-rebuilt engine and sorted rad fan problems as previously discussed- turned out to be a wiring problem-

but now still same erratic timing and juddering

dont know what to do  so decided to investigate ecu- and saw links to relays so thought i'd check it out

looking into these relays and want to know what they do

Relay 18 is the load relief relay, I think, which disables non-vital current consumers (windscreen wipers, cabin fan etc.) during cranking of the engine to maximise the current available to the starter motor.

Of the other two, one will be the fuel pump relay (fuel pump only runs with ECU instruction), the other the ECU power supply relay.  According to a diagram that I have for the 1.2 ECU wiring, the fuel pump relay will have 4 pins, the ECU relay 5 pins.
