Fabia VRS - Brake problem

Featured Replies

My dealer has tried to fix this before but no success. Whenever i release the brakes i get a squeek from the driver's side front wheel. It then continues to squeek for a good 20-30 seconds afterwards as i drive along.

If i put the handbrake on and then release it the noise stops.

I have, therefore, been trying not to use the footbrake when i drive!

The car is booked in for Friday the 9th September for the dealer to have another go, i wondered if anybody out there knows what it is so i can suggest it to the dealer.

I was gonna say it just sounds like squeaky brakes due to brake dust, lack of greese or corroded shim but the handbrake thing has me confused.

Have you taken the brake pads off yourself and re-greesed them, cleaned out all the dust etc to see if that gets rid of it?

No, I haven't, I'm not very good at maintenance - worried i might **** something up or invalidate the warranty

well taking the pads out is verrrrrrry easy and it won't invalidate your warranty (they are a serviceable part) but i appreciate if you've never done it it can be daunting.

Generly it involves, jacking the car up, taking the wheel off. Then on the caliper (the bit that sits over the brake pads) you'll probably see two bolts top and bottom. Undo them both and remove one, the calipper should then swing out and the pads should come out easily. Then clean it all up with a brush, add some brake greese (or copper slip) to the back of the pads (that touch the calliper and piston) and a litte on the edge where the pads sit in the carrier (don't get any on the disc). then refit the pads, if the calliper won't shut use a screw driver to gently push back the piston until it does. Tighten up bolts and refit wheel.

Takes about 15 minutes.

I see the techs at the dealers use a lot of "brake wash" that must be a detergent that gets rid of all the **** without damaging the brakes. does this get rid of noise and can you buy it ?????

Yeah it's just brake cleaner i think, helps to dissolve the brake dust. To be honest i've usually just brushed mine off and blasted em with a hose pipe, seems to work fine.

Do halfords not sell that sort of stuff?
