National Meet - Convoy From The Midlands

Featured Replies

Hellooo

Trying to organise a little bit of a skud missile convoy from the Midlands area for the Friday afternoon, prior to the National Meet.

Thanks to Rob, I think I've found the perfect meeting point, Hilton park services on the M6 just north of Brum, near Wolverhampton. There's a link below to a map of it on the web.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=396500&y=305500&z=5&sv=396500,305500&st=4&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

Personally, I'm hoping for a mid-afternoon gathering there first. I know this brings difficulties with those working, but I've booked a 1/2 day to allow for this (and I reckon it would be really good to avoid rush hour travel)

I am proposing a gathering time of between 2pm and 3pm, perhaps leaving at 3.30'ish to get to wherever we're going in Cheshire for some evening munchies... Who's up for it, then? :D

jason as i live in derby it is tricky to drive down to brum then back north againwhat about a second meeting point a bit further north as well

(ie after stoke)

or what about going from m6 to m62 then a62 and a50 (its all the same road and very quiet)through stoke and onto m6 that way

up to you though mate

alex

Alex, can you please give me a bell?

I'm pretty flexible TBH - even if it means popping into every services on the route to pick up some more Skuds for the convoy.

right then i feel an egon ronay tour of all services on the m6:D

what bell would you like Q? ;)

I'm in!

:)

Well i have the Friday off (fingers crossed that nobody goes sick!) and the weekend so anyone still intersted in the convoy?

Wheres everyone staying btw for the weekend?

Dunno about staying over - kinda hoping someone pipes up with a cheap B&B with plenty of vacancies for the weekend. and , yes, I'm still up for the convoy but I'm worried about getting my springs done in time - anyone know if it's a quick job to do the springs & whether it can be done on a driveway, or if a ramp is needed?...

Jabba just used trolley jacks and axle stands - a ramp isnt necessary.

I reckon a couple of hours for someone whos experienced. Could be done on a level driveway.

Cheers, Matt

I'm a little worried about geography now, because we don't go for that much of the M6 (turn off the M54 quite quick) so I'm going to have another look at streetmap.co.uk for some good meeting spots.

I also found my map last night which has the route of the Welsh run highlighted in yellow - brought back memories of the day in July... :D

How BLOODY ironic is that? The M54 turns off the M6 at junction 10A, and the Hilton park services are about 2 miles north up the M6 from there, after the M54 turn off. This makes the logistics of a brum services meet up quite difficult. Any other suggestions for somewehere to meet up. The first services on the M54 looks most of the way to the start point. :(

Right! - one alternative is the Frankley services on the M5, about 3 junctions prior to hooking up with the M6 - How does this sound?

Frankley sounds fine to me!

There arent any services on the M54 that i know of and the first one on the *** is near ****** i think.

Where is the start point? Sorry i've not been paying attention :baa:

:D

(edited in fear of losing life :D)

Matthew,

'Tis a secret, only known to a select few. They would tell you, but they'd have to kill you. Shhhhhhhhhh!

Ok! ;)

Matt - you just kind of stumbled close to the start point of the run...

OK - so Frankley services (Near Junction 3) on the M5 is the only really feasible meeting point for the convoy to the National then...? Real shame that because I was hoping for other places too.

Anyone coming south down the M6 fancy a little extension to the journey and pop down to Frankley services for the run up the M54? :D

Another possibility is meeting at Junction 4 M42. Thats near me and theres a place we could meet up.

Would mean an extended tour of Brum but we could meet others etc from East Midlands way etc.

as that is 50 miles roughly from me then i think is no go

Only 50? - I'm coming all the way from darkest Devon on the Friday... Where are you based? Matt and myself would be delighted to get another Fabia along the ride NWW.

Come on! There must be more than just me and Jason who can make the convoy!

The more the merrier! :)

As stated, I might be joining in, but can not say for sure at this point in time. It all depends on if I can depart from home at the right time.

i am in derby jason and it is end of month v little money and new tumble dryer = poverty

seriously going south to go north again seems a little pointless?

jason / matt hilton services on friday ok then :)
