Aha, and when will you be buying your old car back then :D  All the best with the excitement of your new car

We aren't kicking you out you know! You can still hang around.

I wish I could keep a car for so long and get real value for money out of it.

130,000 miles, wow!

Now you have moved from the world of brutish PD to the smooth side of Common rail.... Golf GTD an excellent car enjoy :)

That Sir, is a very accurate description.  CR is deceptive by comparison, only the rear view mirror provides any evidence that you're driving briskly, whereas the PD brutally kicks you in the pants.

Truly a sad day for you but you've made someone else happy...ME! [emoji2]

Credit to you for looking after it the way you have though, only hoping I can do the same.

Cheers[emoji106]

Aw, we had such fun times together, badly missed now.  The new kid on the block, who is ever so slightly boring, has a lot to prove.

OK, having owned it from new, and kept every receipt (except fuel), here are the final whole life figures.......

Cost price + tyres + maintenance + repairs + insurance + MOT + VED + average fuel cost - eBay residual value + eBay fees = £35,361.72

£35,361.72 / 130,000 miles = 27.201323077 pence per mile

It was easily worth 27ppm just for the thrills!

27pence per mile? Wow, no wonder people don't get a bus, no way could you go 27p/mile on a bus.

£35K !! Christ that sounds a lot, but you do have to factor in this is over 9 yrs....just under £4k a year ? Doesn't sound so scary then does it.

Just wonder what mine has cost me overall, but I bet it starts to mount up once you factor in the cumulative cost of insurance + fuel, tyres, etc.... I'm sure its less than £4K a year though, or I'd like to think so anyway.

£11.5K car

I think my insurance has ranged from initially when new around £500 to now closer to around £200 ish. I'd say £3K on that.

Probably £1k -£1.5k on tyres

About £4-5k on fuel probably

About £1k on VED

About £120 on MOTS

Maybe £3k-4k on service items, maintenance and bits, and MOTS (done quite a few myself). Also I haven't got mad on modification etc and what I have done e.g. seats have been bargain basement. Even my spiders were only £200 ish and I've only ever referbed myself.

I'd say it mounted up to closer to £25k for the lot, sorry only approximating but I don't think thats far out? ( Currently on 114K miles)

For me I think its  more like 22p a mile and 25K/@8yrs = slightly over £3K a year ? Although that's not that dissimilar to yours really. Will only get cheaper the longer the car is used/owned mind you and I've no plans to change just yet!

Assuming you have done 114,000 miles, the fuel cost will be more like this.......

114,000 miles at average 50mpg = 2280 gallons.

2280 gallons × 4.546 = 10364 litres.

10364 litres at average £1.20 per litre = £12,463.

I may have underestimate that quite a bit then :D Probably more similar to what you quoted then! Scares you when you put it like that.

Now can you imagine if you didn't have to have a car at all....and worked somewhere you could just walk to work instead !

Indeed currently more like 28p a mile and more like 4K a year averaged out....but with every year additional costing more like 1K a year will bring that average down a bit

Unfortunately, the only employment opportunities to be found within walking distance of my home would be restricted to either Village Idiot or Scarecrow. But I believe I could fulfill both roles quite adequately.

.......or the train,

Well, after 14 years of ownership, and less than 5,000 miles on the clock, you can just tell I like looking at it more than riding it :).  I'm also in Northants as well, how about that!
