Always get water marks after wash

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon

Whenever I wash my new car I always end up with white water stains after my final rinse. I can normally remove these by using a detailer like Sonaz BSD. The problem is I don't want to have to do this every week. For my normal weekly wash I want to rinse, shampoo with Autobrite Banana Gloss (will get some Bilt Hamber Auto wash when this runs out), then just dry off with microfiber towel. But after drying there are always water marks on the car especially on the windows.

Do I just live in a hard water area or can these marks be avoided?

No matter how much Autoglym fast glass I use on the windows I cannot remove the water marks/streaks. Can anyone recommend the best method?

I have been battling this problem for years...living in a hard water area as I do.

What I have learned is `Speed` is the key. That and a quick spray with a QD (I currently use `Citru Bling`) while the car is soaking wet. Then, as I say, get round the car as quickly as you can and dry it off. To do that I use a `Wooly Mammoth` on the bonnet, roof, boot, and back of the car, followed quickly with a drying towel. Then repeat this down each side and end with the front of the car...Wooly Mammoth first followed by the drying towel. I have a big car but I can still get the whole thing dry in a few minutes and without needing to wring out.

I do hope that helps.

Regards

Mike.

Do you just pat with the wooly mammoth then rub in the qd with the drying towel?

No. Spray the car with the QD just after you've rinsed it...then dry. I know people say you can just `pat` the car but I gently rub it with both the Wooly Mammoth and the drying towel.

I normally have to rub quite hard to get rid of the water marks and left over detailer.

Are you trying to wash your car in the sunshine?

Is it drying before you can get a towel onto it?

Are you putting too much QD onto the car?

If you do as I've suggested above then I really cant see how you are ending up with the dreaded water marks.

Where are you located and what car are you cleaning?

This is why I prefer washing the car in cool weather..the cooler it is, the longer you've got before the rinse-water starts to evaporate. I really don't know how people wash cars in full sun...as a near neighbour did this morning!

Yes. I have no shaded area at home so I have no choice. It is partially dry before the towelling off. Last week I made the made the mistake of getting the hose pipe on it to test the beading out. Unfortunately I left it wet and it dried with terrible spots. I ended having to shampoo it and dry it off with a towel. Won't be leaving like that again any time soon. Some other peeps her recommended demon shine with the final rinse. Will this help?

Have you read post #6 yet?

I live in a hard water area. What I do is keep the car as wet as I can for as long as I can after washing, then run round with 2 large MF towels. This normally stops the water marks, it did this weekend in all the sunshine we had!

get a water butt to collect rain water - do the final rinse with your collected rain water as its soft water and doesnt leave any water spots even if you leave it to dry without wiping it off. Simples, done it for years....

PS. just make sure you dont collect water from the bottom couple of inches of the water butt as this is where any sediment settles as it washes off the roof and pipes. I empty and rinse the water butt annually just to get rid of it but the water itself is absolutely fine for any car use. If you like suds then you should try rain water in your wash bucket!
