fabia vrs using water

Featured Replies

Hi New to the forum, just looking for a little help

Coolant light came on a couple of months ago I changed the expansion tank but is still using water I have to top it up every week, I've looked for any obvious leaks and can't see any there is no oil in the water and is not losing any power so I'm guessing it's not the head gasket could some put me in the right direction thanks a lot Jamie

Radiator, near side bottom corner in all probability.

Any sign of "rusty" marks on a water pipe? If so then that pipe or one of its joints is your culprit.

Thanks very Much I'll go check the rad, no rust what's so ever on the pipes but I will have another look at all the pipes thanks

Check the heater pipes at the back of the engine where they go through the bulkhead, quite a common 'O Ring' fault.

Yup. That happened to me.

Was hard to find as the water was leaking down onto the exhaust.

An obvious idea sorry, but have you tried a light coloured, absorbent surface under the car overnight (with belly pan removed and level surface). If its leaking hoses you'll have (coolant coloured) fluid gather there and if is quick enough to absorb, a rough idea of where in the engine the leak is (front radiator, rear bulkhead seals, etc).  I haven't experienced either (touch wood) but I would have thought the radiator would leak more in a week than an o-ring or seal? So volume lost might indicate pipe vs seal? I'm hypothesising here...

Radiator often only leaks while the engine is running and can be very hard to spot.

mine was using the same amount after few months it got worse i changed the water bottle no loss of power nor not water mixing with the oil still turned out to be the head gasket
