Should I buy a Monte?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm seriously looking at a new Monte Carlo for my wife to replace her Toyota Aygo but after reading several posts in this forum regards 'pulling to the left' I'm starting to have second thoughts.

I'm assuming not all Monte's have this issue so should I take the risk or avoid the Monte completey?

I just don't have the time to be back and forth to the dealers to ague over known issues.

I know ultimately it's my decision to buy the car or not but your opinions would be welcome.

Thanks!

The answer is yes, yes you should. I have a 11 plate Monte and mine doesn't pull to the left.

I have a 13 plate Monte, owned from new and no issues. Great little car

Has, get one. It's a small issue that just a handful of owners have noticed but this can affect any make or model of vehicle. I speak from experience.

Yeah, get one!

Its only a few that do it, far from being 'all' of them.

You just see more effected cars on here because this is where people talk about their issues, and how to resolve.

Mine did it but not now, love my Monte, get one.

Thanks for all the positive responses.

I'm arranging a test drive for the weekend so if all goes well then I (well my wife) could be joining the Monte crew.

I really like the look of the car and as you can get them on 0% finance and 3 years servicing included it's a bit of a no-brainer.

Thanks again!

I have a 2013 Monte, and I haven't had one issue with it, including the left pulling issue. You will love it, great little car and the TSI 105 engine has a good pull!

Thanks StuFan, I have the TSI 105 in my Mk3 Octavia and it's a cracking engine (if it's the same one) but for cost purposes I'll be looking at the TSI 86 for the Monte.

Any comments on the TSI 86 engine?

No doubt about it, got mine last week, a black tech. Going from an Aygo to a monte she will love it. Got the tech 105ps for the same price they were advertising the standard 86ps monte for.

Give Lookers Stockport a ring see if they have some left. They had 3 all in black all techs.

No pulling left and mine is fitted with the much criticised Dunlops aswell??? As Stufan said the 105 engine really surprised me, get a test drive sure you won't be dissapointed.

Hi, I have a 12 plate Monte 105 TSI, great car, much better than the 206xsi that it replaced. I find it almost as much fun to drive as my new vRS Octavia!! The fact that I have had the vRS just over a month and only driven it a handfull of times, but the monte gets used most days.

So yes get a monte you will not regret it

Steve

Got a Monte Carlo Tech in Black, no issues whatsoever even running the much maligned Dunlop's, Got to 1.2 TSI 105 and it's a great little car!

Had my Monte 2.5 years and covered 50k, never missed a beat and couldn't recommend it more! Up for company renewal this year and really don't know what to replace it with!

I have an Elegance with the 85PS TSI engine.  Fast enough for me and cruises at 70mph on the motorway very well.  Engine very quiet.

Thanks all.

Test drive booked for Saturday so fingers crossed.  I'd love the TSI 105 but I'll need to do some tough negotiating with the salesperson to get one, I'm sure the TSI 86 will be just as much fun!

i have a 63 plate monte, had from new.. had no issues at all. such a great car!

I loved my fabia tsi - great engine and a great size for parking and people/luggage. The engine in your Octavia is the same block but with 16v head and cooled exhaust manifold - the new fabia out next year will get this new gereration engine. Do get a good deal on the last of the current fabia but, if you do, you won't get a better spec for the price. If you can't consider waiting or test drive a Citigo - excellent drive and almost as roomy. Good luck. Andy

Hi, I was just reading the spec for the Monte Carlo and it doesn't list ESC, does the Monte come with ESC?

Thanks

I think all new Fabias built from the end of June 2013 come with ESC as standard, I just missed out on mine as it was built at the start of May 2013 with delivery at the end of May.

I missed out in that too :(

Thanks, I'll ask the dealer later when I go for a test drive and look out for the button.

Cars drive perfectly well and safely without the ESC as everyone without it on there cars know.

Cars are not sliding off the road where it is not fitted.

Good tyres on the car they supply appeals more to me, rather than electronic interference to affect how the car gets around corners.

I thought ESC was just there to back you up and help keep control if you have to make a quick swerve on the motorway in order to miss something.

Doesnt it keep the car in a straight line, rather than spinning off?

Has yours spun off yet.?

Do you ever think, i really wish this car had ESC / ESP it will handle so much better?

Skoda says.

"ESP,

electronic stability programme is designed to stabalise the dynamic handling response of the vehicle

by counteracting any tendency towards oversteer or understeer.

The ESP consistantly compares the actual movement of the vehicle with predetermined values and according to

the situation ESP reacts by braking each wheel individually (according to the direction of slip)

and automatically adjusts the engines output."

Elements of ESP..

ASR  anti-slip traction etc etc ................

Nope. Iv not spun yet, and i also like to think im putting more thought into what I'm doing than some people.

A lot of women or elderly people wouldnt expect, or have fast enough reactions to catch the car if it begun to slide unexpectedly.

I think its a nice safety net for these people.

Not everybody has the same understanding of car control and whats going to happen next, as some of us do.

Could save a crash, could save lives. IMO.
