Barcode Scanner

Featured Replies

Not the normal sort of question posted in here, but I'm struggling to find a piece of hardware, that I think should be pretty straight forward.

I require a simple barcode scanner that can scan a pair of barcodes, and confirm either on screen or via beeps etc whether the two barcodes match.

It doesn't need to record the data, or even connect to a computer, just to inform the user that if what they've scanned doesn't match the paperwork, that there is a problem.

The only thing I seem to be able to find is below, however it seems massively overkill for what we need.

Any ideas folks?

Hi Sam,

I work at a distributor for pos products and we sell a few types of barcode scanner. I'm not sure I've seen any which do barcode match though. It sounds like it will need some kind of internal memory/ software for this.

But I'm only the purchaser so I'm not really an expert on the technical abilities of the products.

I can give you the phone number of my sales team if that will help?

Thanks

Charlie

Problem is, this will need to be used in a warehouse so a smartphone could be too easily damaged.

We do sell rugged hand held computers already with our picking and despatch software installed. As part of that despatch process, you can set the software to require a barcode verification scan for each item, however the devices are pretty pricey, and it's precisely because of that we're looking for a 2nd less costly solution.

For people who don't want the investment of possibly a few thousand, are happy to stick to paper pick notes, but simply want something to help verify what they're doing, it's a bit of a shortfall for us.

Could you PM me your details?

I've already been in touch with our two POS hardware suppliers, but any others is always a good option :)

Easy enough to do with an IF THAN in a spreadsheet if they could take a tablet with them?

WE often run stand alone barcode scanners configured direct to the PC to capture barcodes on returns etc.
