Should i of declared it scrapped?

Featured Replies

Hey.

Probably the wrong area of the forum, but i do apologise. Its a bike, not a car, not that it makes any difference.

I had a pick up pull out on me in feb 2012 when i was riding my motorbike home on a wet miserable night.

Long story short, i smashed into the side of him, got his reg when i was on the floor. He drove off, police found him at his house 30mins later claiming he never knew he'd hit anybody (despite stopping, then thinking against it and wheel spinning off).

His insurance company admitted liability on his behalf and have me a courtesy bike, etc etc.

I then took the bike into a garage (main Honda dealer)and left it with them so they could price up the repair cost. It turned out to be twice what the bike was worth, so i got a phonecall off the insurance company to say its been written off (car c or d i think)

We agreed a price for the bike, and they paid up etc etc no probs. iv never seen the bike since.

However. I just realised iv still got the V5. Should i have declared something?

Iv had a look on the DVLA website and its not on the road, and iv never had a tax renewal notice or anything.

Any idea whats happened? Can a scrap yard declare it scrapped without the v5 or anything off the owner?

Sorry its abit long.

Cheers.

Does the reg number show up any vehicle when you do a vehicle enquiry? Or does it just ask you to call dvla?

The insurance company who paid out should have asked for it unless they were letting you keep the bike for salvage.

First check with the garage you took the bike and see if they still have it,

Then check with the insurance company who paid out for it.

It just says that it hasnt been taxed since i last taxed it. So i took that as it isnt on the road.

A salvage company picked the bike up from the dealers, but i dont know who it was.

Hmm i think I'll give them a ring then. If you think thats best?

Something must have happened, or i would have received a tax renewal notice etc wouldnt i?

If it has been picked up then contact the insurance company and ask why they havnt asked for it.
