Help needed Installing sony cd changer in mk1 Octavia estate

Featured Replies

I've got myself a Sony CD changer and head unit for my octy estate, it has an existing bracket in the boot and someone has cut through a bunch of wires which I presume has the old CD changer harness, so I will need to run new wiring to the head unit.

So does anyone know the best route from the left hand side of the boot to behind the dash?

I'm a novice when it comes to fitting stereos so the more detailed help the better please

I'm in a similar situation-Octavia Mk1 hatch, I want to fit a Grundig 10 disk changer. There seems to be an existing wiring loom to the head unit but the connector in the boot is the wrong one to fit the CD changer (would an adaptor of some sort work here??)  I have a correct wire that connects the cd changer and the head unit but it seems quite a daunting task running the wire through the car!

Thank goodness I'm not the only person who is stuck with the same ICE problem, I've not had a close look yet but I haven't a clue how to get 2 cables into the back of the dash. I've been lucky to get advice on some other bits and pieces, but given people seem to be putting in far more advanced bits of kit I was hoping for a few more replies. If it stays dry this week I will be having a really good look, but I might have to wait until my new Haynes manual turns up. I'll keep you updated on my progress if you could do the same please

Most people tend to do away with the changer and go to a head unit that plays mp3's via a usb input or cd

My new head unit will play mp3s but I have hundred's on CDs and the changer works perfectly with the head unit so it seems natural to fit it

Do you have the Sony harness to run the cd changer, because from memory the oem harness only fits to the oem head unit, the plugs are completely different to most aftermarket head units.

If you really want to do this, I could identify the cut wires in the boot for you, but it may be a pointless exercise if you are going to use the Skoda changer loom unless you are 100% sure the Sony unit can run it - preferably in writing from Sony.

You may be better off getting someone to cut a couple of feet of changer loom out of one of the breaker Octavia's on here so that you can solder it back in by sleeving it.

I don't mean this to sound in any way condescending, but in your original post you say you are a novice to this, do you have the level of skill and confidence to solder this sort of kit in if you have to?, if not you may want to consider a yell for help to someone local to you on here who may be able to help you out with the tricky bits.

Hope this info is of help and you get it sorted out to your satisfaction - don't forget, we all started somewhere on here, and some of us are still spending fortunes on mods  :giggle:

Yanos79, if you carefully lift the n/s sill trim - it is clipped on, just be gentle - you will see where the lions share of the wiring runs so you can follow that. You may find removing the seat helpful for access.

Yes I have the Sony wiring which is extra long, one cable with 2 audio plugs and another wire which plugs into the back of the radio which I check today

For the short term I'm going to fit the changer in the glove box and once I have a bit more time I will put it in the boot.

Taking the passenger seat out seems like a good idea

I've got MKII so I may well be asking the wrong question here........

Won't the changer fit under the passenger seat?
