Vacuum block / solenoid normal behaviour / noises

Featured Replies

OK seen a lot of conflicting comments on this but mine's making a buzzing/ humming noise when I switch off the engine, for about 8 seconds, that you can hear from inside cabin. Is this normal? Don't remember it doing this before.

Shouldn't be able to hear it in the cabin

They buzz as they hold the anti shudder flap closed to prevent engine running on when you switch off the ignition. If you can hear it in the cabin with windows closed, most likely the vacuum block is on it's way out.

Bugger, they are expensive to replace aren't they?

Not really £80 the last time I checked.

Mine just started behaving oddly too last week, a continuous beep after turning engine is off, though not present every time. At first I thought it was the lights left on alarm (same sound) but when I opened the driver door realised sound wasn't coming from the cabin, easily tracked it down to vacuum block. I had the air intake system apart a few days prior to access PS reservoir and took opportunity to clean air system, so wondered if they might be related. So thread of interest for me.
