345mm brake setup

Featured Replies

Hi guys. I'm planning a few upgrades for my 06 octy vrs. 1st up is brakes. Ive considered the porsche option but think i'm going to go with the vag setup.

Do any of you have a complete list of part numbers for everything needed for 345mm brake setup? Are the part numbers different from audi/seat/vw

Also is the price different for the parts from audi/seat/vw?

Thanks gav

I'd go for the Porsche option personally. It's better in the long run.

Get the calipers and adapters then you still run the normal 312 discs.

I ran S3 brakes on my mk2 Octavia and they weigh a ton!

You can use Audi S3 brakes (black£ Golf R32 (blue) and seat leon Cupra r (red). All will need brake lines. I used HEL ones.

Speak to Dave at Vagbremtechnic if you need a set of lines or adapters to run the porsche brakes.

345mm carriers alone cost over £400+vat for the pair and that's without the calipers themselves, I was lucky enough to get my R32 calipers & carriers for £200 so all I needed was discs, pads and shields. If you want new R32 setup then Awesome do the kit for about a grand and for that money your better off buying Porsche calipers and brackets.

Gav, interested to know why you chose the OE vag setup over the Porsche setup? As an aside, I've had both now and there's no comparison between the two - cost, performance, weight, quality....

Hi guys thanks for the input. I chose the vag setup for a couple of reasons. The main one was looks to be honest. The 312 brakes look tiny.

Also the vag setup is brand new off the shelf. I understand the porsche setups can be had slightly cheaper but the vag option can be had off the shelf brand new for similar costs.

I saw the setup on awesome but figured it may be cheaper to go direct or use euro car parts if i had the part numbers.

Also i noticed on one thread the porsche calipers have to have a small section cut out on them?

interesting. Iirc the Porsche calipers are reasonably priced brand new from the service desk, certainly mine came in a couple of £££ cheaper than my previous S3 setup but it sounds as though you've made your mind up. Best of luck with the S3 setup. :)

Im not 100% yet. But its interesting to hear that the porsche setup can be had new for reasonable money.

I looked at 2nd hand and then figured they would need refurb costs adding but if they can be bought direct without breaking the bank then i may have to reconsider.

Does the caliper need modifying at all? As i saw in one thread a small section has to be cut out.

Just so i'm not confusing myself the correct one to use is the rear 986 caliper?

Thanks

Bear in mind the physical size of the Porsche set up

I've been running Brembo 6-pots for a while from a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and they do limit your wheel options

I'm dropping down to the S3/R32 calipers to enable my 19s to go over them

Ive got 18" ch reps so should be ok i think. Can anyone confirm?

Another vote for porsche setup here due the the sheer weight of the VAG manhole covers...!!!

I went down the TTRS 370mm route.

yes they stop, but yes they are heavy. minimum 18" wheels with particular spoke configuration to clear the callipers.

Surely the 345 discs will be lighter than the 350 discs, rolling weight will be lower, so the extra weight of the calipers will have minimal effect anyway?
