If you have these, just check the tread is OK.

One of mine is starting to seperate after 400 road miles and 30 minutes of track work...

Mine are doing this also but I have been told by Demon Tweeks and Federal that this is normal..  Not too sure myself but as they will have a short life I am not too fussed

It's normal for the 595 RS-R's they all do it.

It's apparently a moulding line and nothing to worry about.

If it's normal I'll not be buying any more.

I know they are cheap, but it doesn't fill me with confidence when I'm bombing along at 100mph+ and late braking into corners.

Never seen it on any tyres before.

You will be fine, it doesn't go that deep,  by the time you have run a few laps you will have worn through it  :wonder:  so they say.

Mine after a 1062 mile road trip inc 2 laps of the ring:

The rears were still unmarked, but since doing 70laps of combe there starting to look similar now.

If you've had the same did it make a flapping/slapping noise while driving.

That developed today aon the rear and then I found this.

Maybe I'm fussy, but I wouldn't drive on tyres like that.

I haven't heard anything specific, but with a stripped out car, everything sounds noisy.

Come to think of it, i've not driven the car on normal road tyres since I fitted these, so couldn't tell you anyway.

I know what your saying but it's something that is well known with these tyres and people have moaned about it for years, but there has never been any issue's and you do eventually wear it level again (well maybe normal people do, i've actually made mine worse lol).

Well someone is buying these up anyway.

Were £70 a corner this morning with only 7 left on MyTyres and have shot back up to over £100 by this afternoon

Has anyone noticed there appear to be an RS version and an RS-R?  Is there a difference?

Mine have never worn like that with splits on them.  I shall be keeping an eye on them just in case but after 45 minutes + 1 full trackday at Combe they are looking OK - apart from being a bit worn on the front left :D

RS are 180 shore hard and RS-R are 140 shore hard iirc, meaning the RS-R are softer and therefore by definition give more grip. I also think the RS-R have a harder sidewall meaning less distortion when cornering.

Check out Demon Tweeks as they stock them, will fit them and will price match too.  A nice run out from yours to Wrexham

I have 2 RS and 2 RSR... don't know which are on where on my car! lol... but it handles nicely.... mine also have a slight line like the others posted, so it must be a normal part of the moulding process...

I'm not worried about it, they feel good, and grip more than anything I have ever tried... if they were to start to delaminate (thats not whats happening) you'd soon know about it, you would loose all balance, and grip.

I will keep using R888's after seeing this!!!

Mine have done the same.

Seams to happen on them all.

OK, after Cadwell my RS-R's have worn through the split of doom and gloom, in fact they have started to fill in the grooves with the amount of rubber that has worn from them, wheel arches have sticky rubber stuck to them, so they got hot and I have to say performed very well in the dry at Cadwell.

I am now looking at another make of tyre, it is a road legal cut slick and extremely cheap, reviews from other forums seem good so I think they are worth a try.

They are Max Sport RB5-F3, these are more of a Tarmac Rally tyre but for the price worth a try, LINK  I know they are remoulds but who cares for the 300-500 miles they will do before they are worn out.

Tarmac rally tyres do not like doing laps of a circuit, they are designed to do a stage and then cool down, not lap after lap.

You will find they give good grip, then without much warning they will tear themselves to pieces (delaminate, cordes show through and in some cases deform), or even explode mid corner (ask SiBart on here)

Thanks for that extremely useful advice Cossie, a high speed bow out should make for a brown trouser moment lol.

Back to the drawing board then, maybe RS-R's again, I still have 5 or 6 track sessions left in them and now the car is towed everywhere I am ok to wear them out fully.

Is there really going to be that much difference in miles covered between a rally stage and miles covered on a track day?

Is there really going to be that much difference in miles covered between a rally stage and miles covered on a track day?

I would think so Andy, on a rally stage the tyres warm up and cool down a lot more as the road stages are quite varied, on circuit the tyre is under constant load especially at Cadwell where there is long high speed right hander before the goose neck.

Most rallies are also short blasts, I was doing 10-15laps at a time at 2 miles per lap is 20-30 miles, most rallies are only about 50-60 miles in total (stage miles)

They are cheap though and I believe very grippy, might be worth a set to see how they go on, even of only for the rears and use a harder compound up front.

Don't follow the WRC as much as I used to, just remember some of the road stages being somewhere between 25 to 40 miles long with varying types of tarmac surface and rally drivers not really the sort to worry to much about wear rates, was it McRae who said "if in doubt flat out".

Suppose what type of surface the track has makes a difference to tyre life.

R1R ate very good. Not enough of am improvement over the RSR to justify the price imo

Long time no see :). ST doing well?

Didn't you have

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 215/40 ZR17 87Y

On one of your cars ?

I seem to remember you liked them?
