Federal RS-R

Guys who use RS-Rs...

What are they like in the wet? I've put a set on my car today and had a small blast, going to leave them on till I get to Brands on Monday and see where I go from there.

Will I crash and die in the rain with these tyres on?

I managed to drive through germany in pitch black and torrential rain around winding country roads without an issue.

On track they will be fine too, aslong as you get heat into them.

This, as road tyres in the rain they are pretty good still - no worse than your average road tyre.

I can only imagine they would be bad in standing water on track, but who is going to do anything but tiptoe through standing water whilst on a trackday? :D

Pretty sure they'll be staying on then.

Got some well used RS2s in the boot as well.

Has to be long sleeves according to the info I received off open track.

Who is doing OpenTrack, where and when?

Jamie and I are doing OpenTrack this Friday at Oulton Park

I love the way OpenTrack organize their events!

Just checked and they are fully booked :(

Pity as I finished playing with VCDS and would love to check the results on a track...

Enjoy yourselves gents!

It seems that this event is being run in conjunction with the MLR, so spaces sold out quickly.

Reviving an old thread but it is just as I have a question to those that might know.

I have been running Federal 595 RS-R tyres @ 225-45-17 on my Golf as a few of you know, I am looking at some new ones as I really have had the best of what is fitted now.

I am thinking of replacing the 225-45-17 with a 215-40-17, I know rolling circumference will be shorter but what else will be effected?  Remember this a track day only car so I am not bothered about speedo readings etc.

Less grip

Less grip, would there be any benefit from the lower side wall?

The 225-45-17 have been good but look big ( I would never get in with the stretch tyre gang )

Not really, the sidewalls are reasonably stiff anyway.

I think there would be more loss than gains.

ordered the 225-45-17's again, four delivered very cheaply indeed £292 not bad.

Wow, that is a stellar price!

With 215 you'd have more fun as they theoretically give less grip as the contact patch would be smaller that with 225 and due to ever so slightly lower rolling resistance and weight you could potentially go faster. I can however bet you that the difference would be only on paper and would not be able to tell really :)

Some people like stiffer side walls than others, stiffer ones would give you less "notice " of them loosing traction than the softer side wall. They would "bend" just before letting go and you could probably (depending how sensitive your derriere is ) fell it and react in time.

On my vRS I have 215/40R17 (on race rims for track only) which is an improvement from 2015/40R17 stocks.
