Protecting callipers

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon, All.

I've recently spent a fair bit on getting my callipers professionally sandblasted and painted. I do believe they were lacquered also.

My question is...

How do I keep them pristine without removing the wheels?

My thinking was to occasionally `paint` them through the spokes with something like BSD, but removing it when it had had time to `fuse` might be a problem.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Mike.

Probably a nano coating or something similar to that?

Sounds like a job for something like carbon collective, their wheel sealant is good stuff!

Thanks for that, Dan.

I was more interested though in the technique rather than the product used.

I've just bought some and was thinking about doing the same as the wheels will be off anyway, so putting some on the painted surfaces of the callipers won't take much more effort.

Hi Mike - in this instance product is almost more important than technique. Due to the high temperatures the brakes will reach, you should choose your products accordingly. Certainly this will help with a long term reliable protection.

So a good ceramic sealant designed for high temps would be ideal; same for any paint or lacquer used in refurb process.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike

As Ade states, Carbon Collective Platinum Wheel sealant is the one to go for

I have done my alloys AND calipers with this. It’s simple to apply, unaffected by temperature and will last a couple of years

You will have to remove your alloys...suggest two at a time on one side

Just make sure that the surface its being applied to is totally clean and product free.....wipe with Carpro Eraser and/or IPA

Apply two coats an hour apart and that’s it!! This is important as the previous layer needs to harden

It cures to a glass like shell and requires no maintenance at all. Just regular washing.....

BUT if you need to.......is unaffected by any product like Iron X or acidic wheel cleaners

Thanks, Chaps.

I'll order some of that gear and crack on with the job.

Mike.

You'll need some lint free makeup pads to apply it with too Mike. They recommend using 1 per wheel, but only put 1 in with the sealer!

Never thought of doing my calipers with it. Have done my exhaust tip and that cleans up very easily now when washing.

Thinking about buying their paint one to try. Quite impressed with the wheel sealant!

I believe its the same product Dan....so either will do the job
