you may as well do the 312's with some decent pads, if you already have them mate!

best pads for the money have to be ferodo ds2500

But not road legal.

So how much would vented discs and decent pads for the 312mm setup be?

I still had them because I tried to sell them yet no one was interested. For £100 I may as well keep them

Sorry to revive old thread! I am currently looking at braking options, and had my eye on some 288mm Tarox discs and pads. Anyone have any experience or knowledge on these? I'm coming up to the 40,000mile mark and brakes still have plenty of life, but don't suppose it would hurt to potentially save yourself from having an accident by upgrading.

Is worth getting discs and pads? Or would a decent set of pads do the job?

I'd wager that if at 40k your brakes are still fine then you do not need anything else really. If you do not track your car brakes upgrade is really not necessary, imho that is

Unless you want to save fuel and improve handling by installing lighter braking system?

Thanks for your opinion Jab, interesting thoughts. I guess lighter brakes wouldn't really make much of a difference to MPG. Wouldn't be economically worth it anyway!

As far as weight savings in a car are concerned the most effect/best value for money is with moving parts. So alloys, brakes, flywheel, lighter pistons and crank shaft, lighter gearbox internals, lightweight clutch.

Most of them are in the realms of very serious modding apart from alloys and brakes.

If I was to quantify any potential savings I'd say ...erm, no clue :)

New pads if it needs them,  maybe Yellow Stuff

& the Brake Fluid service schedule is at 3 years,

or change before if you want to, so you may as well use Quality Brake Fluid.

Little point replacing the Standard size discs for 'Performance Discs' the same size unless you need new discs because of corrosion.

I need to do just that on a 45,000 mile vRS.

This will be the 3rd set of Discs fitted now since July 2010.

Standard ones getting fitted this time, since the Performance ones lasted no better & gave no better braking.
