Dpf replacement

Featured Replies

Think I will need to either remove or replace my dpf in the near future, could anybody tell me if this is all I need for a replacement and a rough idea what a garage would charge to fit? Cheers

I've been quoted £650 to remove and remap. Price wise on flea-bay for £600 ish then probably another £200-£300 labour on top I'd guess.

I paid £150 for my DPF deleted downpipe and dummy DPF. That was custom made by a power flow exhaust place.

Have you had an mot with that dummy dpf mate? That's the only thing that would worry me now

No but ive asked a few garages who said it would 100% pass. The main reason was because they cannot prove its not a DPF.

The only thing to be wary of here is your insurance.

DPF removal is technically a modification, a declarable one? Not sure.

If it has filled up with ash you could look at getting it cleaned.

It is declareable silver. Mines declared

So would I buy this and still keep my original dpf? Obviously this would be handy in case any changes come in with the mot. Was that just supply or was that fitted?

Yep, this is the cheapest unquestionably-100%-legal solution.

there's a vid on youtube where a bloke (think he was an Oz) did this by cutting the ends of the dpf off and cutting it from top to bottom so it opened up like a book. He tipped all the ash out, then jetwashed it and soaked it before welding it back together and drying it out in his oven so I recon there will be a market for this at some stage as it would be legal, but cheaper than replacing a clogged dpf (providing it works of course)

I looked into this but not sure how effective this is, if i knew this would work 100% be quite happy to do this as would probably be the cheapest way, would even do it myself with a pressure washer but don't want to be wasting time or money if it's not going to fix the problem

There are quite a few vids on doing it yourself with a pressure washer. There are also professional services that will 'do it properly' with a special cleaning process.

The stuff inside isnt ecactly roses. I wouldnt be touching it, hence why most people get dummy pipes and not guy them anymore.

There you go, about £150 if you de/refit yourself.

That looks pretty good, how easy is the remove/refit of the dpf? Diy or a mechanic job?

If you have a 4x4 or a scout then it looks like a pain but I think a vrs is easier.

It's a vrs I have got, looked for a guide how to remove it before but couldn't find one

It has to come out downwards IIRC.

Drivers side driveshaft as to be removed and exhaust heat sheet. then it drops down. No way could it be done on a driveway, far to much effort.
