Road Test After Cambelt Replacement

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Question for the more mechanically astute.

Is it standard practice during the road test after the cambelt and water pump have been replaced for the mechanic to Rev the nuts off the car, especially when stationary at traffic lights?

As that is what the mechanic is doing to my car as captured on dash cam.

As an aside, suffered total coolant loss 3 days after the cambelt change.

In 4 years of ownership never had to top up coolant, or call out recovery. Both gone for a Burton after a Skoda mechanic gets his hands on it.

He'll have been trying to get everything nice and hot to flush out any air locks. Only really needs to keep the revs up not rev the b0ll0cks off it.

Show the Dash Cam footage to the dealers principle and see what he has to say.

Better still - put it on here.

There's nothing like the sound of descending pallets of bricks in the morning!

Work Guaranteed by the garage,

and if they have Failed to do the Cam Belt & Water Pump & have the system Bleed & the job properly and Profesionally done you will need some assurances from the Dealer Principal that he will have the job competently done now,

or you will need to Employ a Garage that can and bill them,

But you can give them the Opportunity to explain, and see what they propose.

Put everything in writing and demand their replies are done in writing with Names of those taking responsibility.

Technician, Workshop Manager, Service Manager or Dealer Principal.

You have Trading Standards available to you if the Garage want to be stupid, you get a Inspection Done & a Report on their work, and go from their.

They are paying how ever it goes though.

PS

Was it a A.C. or P**ks of H*****n Workshop?

Addressing to the Dealer Principal rather than the Dealer Principle would make more sense.

Thank you for that correction.  Edited the spelling mistake.

Did the car have chance to warm up before he did that?

Revving the nuts off somebody else pride and joy is annoying, but doing with a cold engine is much worse IMO.

isn't it quite common to need to top up coolant after a cambelt? Are you certain that there is no coolant in there at all? I find it hard to believe it would lose it all without you noticing a large puddle under the car?

They have diagnosed a faulty water pump. Water pump replaced and vehicle returned the same day.

No large puddle observed under vehicle, just small drops you would get when stationary with aircon on.

The Dealer Principle could also be correct if that is the policy you adopt when dealing with complaints; by pass everyone else, and go straight to them. [emoji12]

If done correctly you should not have to top it up.
