DIY Hybrid detailer

Featured Replies

After reading on another topic thread on here with interest about mixing two different detailing products to get a supposedly supercharged hybrid I decided to give it a go last night.

The two items that I chose where Gtechniq C2v3 and Sonax' Turbo Detailer, for no real reason other than I had these in the garage and I wanted to give it a go for myself. I only mixed a small quantity (20mm of each) for a trial run and mixed in equal parts (50:50), and decanter-ed into a small spray bottle that I robbed from my daughters art draw - she's 6 and won't miss it!

The sonax stuff is quite a bit thicker than the C2v3 but they did mix well together. My test subject was my company car as the wife was out in our vRS, and I only tested it on the boot lid and the high rear quarter panels, as the light was fading and it was starting to spit with rain. The result was quite good, getting the lovely silky smooth finish of the C2v3 with a nice gloss of the turbo detailer. This test was done in haste and the panels tested were just washed and dryed prior to getting a spray, in other words not fully prepped, so I'm not expecting the last word in durability. I took a few photos on the ipad and the car is a white car so maybe the pics don't do it justice.

Nice experiment

Certainly i am worried about the mixing; as stated the Sonax is a thick gloopy liquid.

Most of the QD's i have in mind are a very runny slippery consistency - so i hope they mix ok;

obviously you would need to be careful to properly shake and re-mix every time before use.

2 extra slick QD's on order - hope to test this out soon  ;)

A Slick one ( CG v7) ....

... and one with high durability (Sonax BSD)

Both QD sealants

Both should compliment each other

No disagreeing with the above; as per the DW thread - proven and tested for Sonax and CGv7.

Focus of my experiment is to integrate an additional anti-static behaviour, if possible - esp for these dry/dusty summer months.

So we shall see..... all interesting fun and games  :sun:

Such a product exists...... with antistatic capabilities???

Names?

Link?

FK 425 is very slick and adding BSD will be all it should have been in the first place I would imagine

I would imagine that it's anti static capabilities would diminish somewhat if mixed with another product

I await your results

#425 is anti static

Indeed it is.... it's been on the test list for a while; but CYC have been out of stock on the sample size.

Shame really.... but i'm looking at testing another option first; but hope to get round to this one eventually.

You want some posting up to you mate? I've got a couple of litres

A sample would be great - happy to cover costs or send a sample of another product back in your direction....

Nice one!

I'll order some spray bottles today then get it out to you when they arrive.

Will PM you later this week to sort out.

Happy to help mate!

Nice one dude - that's really appreciated.

Don't worry about sprayers necessarily; i have that sorted here - plus i will be mixing/diluting anyway!

Anything suitable to shop them in is fine.

Drop me a PM whenever... and we will sort something out!
