Warranty advice

Featured Replies

Bought a second hand Octavia a few weeks ago and rung the dealership where I bought as there is sometimes a vibration from dashboard end plate.

He informed me that the car is still within a month or so of it's original manufacturers warranty and so advised me that I could book it in at my local dealership, which I have done.

Problem is the rattle seems to have disappeared for the time being, would you advise I keep the appointment or not? As I don't want to be charged if the rattle decides not to come back when the technician is looking at the car.

If the problem cannot be fixed on the day, do I have the right to a courtesy car?

Also, the bolero firmware update can apparently be done under warranty, is this true.

Would it matter if I have not yet received my V5, I would of course be bringing my receipts.

Something intermittent like that could be easily dismissed as road surface/ driving style.

Best bet is to keep something to hand to record it. Not easy if you tend to drive alone.

My old mans subaru rattles. Nothing they ( garage ) could do. It's not got lots of little wedges in it and far fewer rattles.

Not sure on the courtesy car, I've found that varies on garage and to some extent history with them. I'm sure you can ask.

You may also have some warranty with the seller, but I'm not certain of your exact deal. Might be worth asking if you can't get her to rattle.

Might it be an old leaf or something that's not settled back down?

Hope you enjoy it once past this early niggle.

Colin.

Have you spoken to the dealership that you have made the booking with? I would advise you do this and explain the situation with regards to the warranty. Some manufacturers dont cover trim after the first 12 months of a warranty so read the book pack that came with the car. Dash rattle etc is most likly a trim concern.

As for the replacement courtesy car whilst yours is in for the investigation; You are always entitled to request this at the point of making your booking, the dealership will then advise of there lead time for a courtesy but be warned they may insist on charging you a insurance fee for having courtesy car for the day.

Hope this helps a little.

Yeah the rattle had disappeared again... Though what I did notice is that if I operate the right hand door mirror it also operates the left. The left door mirror only operates the left.

Either that's Czech engineering at it's finest, or the old owner knocked it off at some point and somebody rewired it like an idiot... not a big deal in any sense of the word, just a pain in the arse.

I will call the garage the dealership I booked it into and ask but I think that could be something for the dealership it was bought from, though I will find out if Bolero update can be done under warranty.

Either way, it's a damn fine car and better then my old mk5 Astra in nearly every sense of the word (albeit the Astra was more of a fun drive and had better speakers)

The mirrors thing is a feature that makes it easier to adjust when someone else has fiddled with them. Working as intended. Set the right one first, then the left, if it needs it.
