Dead battery, key wont turn. Open how?

Featured Replies

My 2006 FSI havent been used at all last couple of months so now the battery is drained.

Cant open with the remote, so i tried with the key.

I have never used the key ever.

So i cant even get the key in more than a couple of mm.

After some oil and a bit of jiggeling i got in  all the way but i still cant turn it around att all!

So.. how do i get into the car? Can i open the hood in some way and then charge the battery and open with the remote?

Suggestions please.

Stick the straw of WD-40 in the key hole and give it a good scoosh and try the key after a minute.

And again the next day.

try the keyhole in the boot instead of the door.

There isn't one in the boot on a mk2 Octy is there??

Can you lower the plastic engine undertray and get at the alternator from underneath? If so, clamp the positive lead from a 12V battery charger onto the positive cable terminal on the back of the alternator, clamp the negative lead from the charger onto to some bare metal on the engine and charge the battery that way? The charger may even provide enough power to operate the remote locking.

certainly isn't on mine..

This is the best way to do it. Ten minutes charging is usually enough to unlock the doors.

And keep working at that door lock....

You never know when you might need it.

It's inspired me to go out and try the lock on mine. It worked but was slightly stiff.

I was reading about someone on another forum who had this problem with a Golf and called the AA out. Their solution? Smash the side window :wall:

Well worth the annual AA subs then ......
