What I found out today....

Featured Replies

...... My car has been in a crash at some point. Rear quarter had been filled so has the front wing and bonnet but more worrying so has the roof!!! The body shop guy said something could of been dropped on the roof (as I did to the other side recently gutted!) and the previous owner has had it repaired. Using a paint depth gauge he tested the whole car. It's had the paint blown in on half of the bonnet lower front wing and the rear quarter as well as the roof. He said the doors are original but I said there is nothing to say they haven't sourced new doors that have not been painted before.

Going to pull the headliner down to see exactly what has been done to the roof as that is quite concerning.

The cars hpi clear so obviously been repaired and chopped in for something else.

Now that's my corrosion guarantee out the window! That's why it had to be checked.

Peeeeeevvvveeeeddddd!!!!!!!

doesn't sound good but loads of cars get filler depends on how good the bodyshop is at repairs! id wait and see whats under the filler before worrying too much.

This is why I always bring a magnet with me when I buy a car.

Yeah I know that. But I Diddnt think of it as I got it from a main dealer. Live and learn!!

They're some of the worse mate.. a work Merc Sprinter we bought through work one time found it had been in a nasty accident after we started modifying it for the business. Fair play to the dealer as we chucked it back at them and they had to deliver a new one to the modifying body shop. How long has it been no recourse?

I've had the car 3 years now and I would have a very hard time proving it's something I did not do. I'm going to take some bits off over the weekend to inspect it and see how bad the damage was and make my mind up from there. Would of thought a main dealer would of gone round a car with a depth gauge they are taking in part ex to uncover anything that's not in the history.

Anyway I have the details of the two previous owners, I may just send them a letter each and try and get some info about it. If they are still at that address that is.

I couldn't notice the filler. I'm quite pedantic when it comes to bodywork but as soon as the body shop guy looked at the car he could see it. Trained eye against mine! Now he has pointed it out to me I can see it and it's bugging me!
