Just out of interest, as it looks certain now that next Superb will be a 7 seat SUV, I wondered how many current owners will buy an SUV instead of their current saloon/estate?

Personally, no. I once had a genuine need for a 4x4, but after moving into the city four years ago I no longer have a need for one so swapped out the Range Rover for a Superb estate. I realise the current trend is for SUV/Crossovers but I can't see me going back unless I had a real need for ground clearance and genuine off road ability. I much prefer the car like handling etc of estate, although I do miss the ability to waft over road imperfections and not worry about potholes ;) ;)

cheers, Steve

This first surfaced last year...

With an update just towards the end of the year...

And then confirmed again last month...

Autocar, tend to be pretty accurate about this when quoting company sources, but of course it's a magazine, so not set in stone. As it's talking about the replacement of a current range with an SUV and quoting named company sources, I'm sure Skoda would have corrected something in error of this magnitude, but we'll have to wait and see.

thanks, Steve

Not me.

It would be an impossible choice between the Superb SUV, and its design inspiration:

I understand that the SUV is a separate model, not actually replacing anything but an addition to the Skoda range.  Most sources, when referring to the new models coming on stream in 2015/16, refer to both this new larger SUV and the Superb.  One of the sources above mentions that the SUV will replace the Superb as the flagship model - I would interpret this to mean that the Superb will still be produced, just that the SUV may be the flagship of the range?

Anyway to answer the question, definitely not for me if it was an SUV.  I bought the Superb as a saloon for comfort and luxury.  I don't like the high centre of gravity in SUVs and compromised road handling but I can see the appeal for some.

would find it VERY foolish to replace the Superb with another model - Big Estates (E Class, Superb, A6, 5 series) are very popular at the moment, a lot more than an SUV, and i think they will be for a while yet....

Al.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice the economy and handling

I'd like to see a hybrid version.  If they can get 130mpg from the new Outlander, or even the paltry 100mpg that the new XC90 is rumoured to have, then sign me up!

So long as it doesn't look like the Nissan Prairie of course...
