Wipers - Is this normal

Recommended Posts

Silly question...

In light of my AC issues http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/321787-ac-issue/ on my new car, I have just noticed that when I turn on the ignition the wipers move up the screen slightly... OR down when I turn off... Is this normal?

Not noticed when I switch on but definitely when off. There's a bit in the manual about the at rest position being moved when you switch off to prevent rubber fatigue in the wiper.

Think its more to do with the AC issue, which I HOPE the fix before I travel home on Friday :) They are checking that tomorrow, and I have sent a grovel email asking if they need to order anything it can be done by Thursday night.....

Even with the AC issue, I am still happy with the car, little upset I have the issue, but these things happen...

Yes it normal, mine drop down when ignition on and pop up a bit when ignition off, also I have automatic wiper and between wipes when paused the stop in the higher position but if there's a long pause between wipes the wipers also drop down to low position, funny as it might sound I think it might have something to do with aerodynamics so they are tucked down behind the bonnet. Thats my theory anyway.

If you push the wiper control momentarily (i.e. a flick wipe) after you've turned the ignition off, the wipers park vertically.

This is normal too.

It makes changing the blades a lot easier, (otherwise the wiper arm takes paint off the bonnet edge when you try to lift it up).

HTH.
