18s on a Fabia

Featured Replies

At Edition38 yesterday I tried an 18" Cupra wheel on the Fabia too see whether I liked the look of them. They've now been sold, so I won't be fitting them. The result wasn't very me anyway, but lots of other people thought the car looked fantastic. I have a picture if anyone is interested.

The wheel went on fine, with no rubbing even on full lock (and the car is 30mm down), and it sat flush with the wheel arch. So why do is there this understanding that you can't fit 18s on a Fabia?

People have had 18s on them in the past , but you do need tyres like rubber bands :D

Also I think some of the ones where rubbing was reported were the wrong offset or significantly wider than the factory issue wheels

Yes, they will fit.. but they need 35 profile tyres, and some (depending on offset) will rub on the drivers side rear as the fuel filler neck runs inside the wheelarch.

EDIT:

:wrthless:

The other downside of having silly sized wheels is that you will kill the car's acceleration! ;) Would be interested to see the pics though :D

JBS had 18's on their vRS (rip)...

They were 8" wide iirc, and they had to modify some metalwork in the rear arch to get them to fit.

Yeah - those mothers were heaaavy. Another reason why I didn't really like them. But the car just spins the current wheels and another 2in tread width would have bean useful!

The photos are on the camera at home and I'm at work (I know...) so I'll sort something out this evening.

Still hell-bent on the Merc wheel plan. I'd like the car lower first, though. Preferably on springs if available, having bought and enjoyed the Eibach dampers (found some 60/40 springs but they're 'unbranded' - http://www.tuningshop.co.uk/acatalog/The_Tuning_Webshop___Skoda_271.html  ).

I looked into 18's - its the width that is the main concern. If I could find some 7 or 7.5" wide RS6 replicas I'd be happy. Preferably 7" though... Most seem to be 8", which is silly on a Fabia imho.

The Cupras were 7".

Hmmm. Wouldn't mind some of them - the 17's Ross had on Xavs current car looked nice. An extra inch would look the badgers nadgers!!!

Another thing I didn't much like was the thin spokes made my brakes look tiny. My car is only a PD100, but I reckon even 312mmm brakes would look small, especially with the standard rears.

Sweet a bigger version of what I had on mine originally.

Wuld look better with the right profile tyres.

Look nice. What tyres did it have on it?

You got full lock to lock OK then? What about if you had to lock over whilst taking a corner at pace? Do you think the suspension might dip low enough to foul the wheel? Looks close. :)

Rolling raduis is the same of near enough for a 215/40 17 and a 215/35 18 so if one doesnt run neither wil the other.

Them tyres will be 225/40 18's iirc and wrong for the fabia.

Yeah, it didn't clip anything on the inside arch at full lock. In my view, the arch isn't close to the tyre until you can't get your fingers in there, and you could get your whole wrist in there!

When I tried larger wheels/tyres on mine it wasn't the top of the arch that was the problem it was the horizontal rubbing through the center of the wheel if you know what I mean.

What size tyres did you try mate?

17" 50s on nice Scoobie wheels.

Just fitted 17" 40s tonight.

I did look, but I can't remember. I think 35s, but it's anyone's guess.

The question was directed @ black magic ;)

whats that AA badge all about??????????

Seen a set of Masitaly VT7's on ebay in 18x7.5 ET35, and the seller is willing to fit them with 215/35/18 tyres (Federal SS595) for the auction price of
