Removing gear lever surround

Featured Replies

Hi

My manual gear lever has starting making a squeaking noise, especially when changing from 2nd to 1st.  Does anyone know how to remove the surround so I can grease the linkages?  It is an SE model with a 6 speed manual 'box.

Thanks

Glen

Open the ashtray, stick your hands in there and pry with your fingers underneath the baseplate, pulling upwards. The ENTIRE plate (including the bit where all the buttons are located on the sides) comes off.

If it won't budge, you can use a plastic wedge, but be carefull.

EDIT you can see a picture of the construction HERE in my thread about retrofitting the FL gearknob
