Paint swirls

Featured Replies

I have a 2012 Vrs CR estate in black and after 2 years it has just passed 50k miles and had its 5th service. For the most part the car is good bar seat comfort, which is more to do with me being 6ft 3ins and the paint.

Despite washing the car using my pressure washer and snow foam pre wash, 2 bucket method and decent (autoglym) shampoo, I still have paint swirls. Can anyone recommend how to get rid without buying power tools/polishers?

You could polish by hand but it would be a lot of work. Try asking in the car care part of the forum. Somebody local to you might lend you a machine polisher or even offer to help you out. There are a few people on this forum that have a professional level of work and some that even do this like a second job like chrisrs. Failing finding anyone local on here you could always try the detailing world forum or others like that.

Forgot to say there are glaze type products that might help fill in and hide the swirls like poor boys black hole but they wouldn't get rid of the swirls permanently, the only way to do that would be to have it polished. I'm no expert though!

Get a pro to do it if you don't want to invest in your own gear. :)

As has been said..If you want to remove the swirls, it will have to be machine polished

A temporary fix is to use a product with fillers that mask the swirls, but this soon washes out

I live in Tunbridge Wells and could help you out at some point...I am sure a few of the guys here will testify to the condition of my 100,000 mile/8year old Black Magic Paint...

Hey Chris, I have to disagree, not because I am an argumentative person by any stretch, just very OCD...In my experience, using gTechniq P1 and P2 offers fantastic results by hand - depending on the severity of the damage of course! This followed up with a good 3rd polish and finally a decent sealant, I find, gives a solid, long lasting finish and protection...

I don't disagree with you

But it's damned hard work. P1 is an excellent polish.

But it's far better with a DA...and a lot quicker

However I was referring to the OP masking the swirls rather than removing them

I'd budget a week's worth of work to properly correct a black Octy by hand working carefully panel by panel with P1.  Assuming you have a job to go to.

With a DA and Rotary you would have the car corrected and protected in a day.

(severity dependant)
