Arnold Clark Skoda Linwood scratched my car!

Featured Replies

We bought our wee car from AC Linwood Ford and one of the items agreed at the time was that the dealer would provide a second key for the car, and have it coded in. They would also reset the service interval indicator, neither of these jobs could be done in the Ford garage we bought the car from. Easy enough we thought as the Skoda franchise is quite literally across the road.

Took the car in yesterday as agreed to the AC Skoda place, lass at the desk asks if we would like the car washed as well and we said yes.

The job itself took a little under an hour and we were called over. The lass handed us the second key and said she would walk us to our car. We went out and the car was looking great. Walking past the front my wife stopped and looked at the bonnet as she thought there was a mark on it, turns out it had been scratched. About 12 inches long on the left side of the bonnet, not especially deep but you can see it easily due to the metallic green colour.

Lass asked if the scratch was already there? We told her absolutely not, she went and got her job sheet detailing any imperfections prior to car being taken in. Realising that it had been scratched she has reported it but we need to wait until the manager returns on Monday to take this further i.e. get it sorted out.

We think but are not certain that it has been done when they have washed it, maybe the hose trailing over the bonnet or something on a sponge perhaps. It's a shame because that aside their service was actually pretty good and the chap had taken time to hoover and freshen up the interior.

Stunned.

Not good matie - certainly hope they sort it out for you.

If any re-painting is offered - be sure to ask that it be done in the paint shop.

Don't let them assign a chipsaway type company.

The number of times i've driven into my local Skoda dealer and found the chipsaway van spraying panels

round the back in open air and shocking conditions generally. I wouldnt trust them at all! Just to warn you.

Thanks, I'm hoping it's not deep enough to need paint shop but if it turns out that it has to be then I will press for the paint shop rather than an open air job under a marquee.

I'm hoping that someone particularly adept at removing scratches is able to do it, I think a good detailer would be able to do it without too much problem but then again I'm a long way from being any way qualified to know what it will need.

Fingers crossed its not a paint job.

Theres quite a lot of Briskodians including me on here who refuse to let dealers wash their cars even if its in their policy to do so for that exact reason, theres a habbit of scratching going on. You have no idea what sponge, water or soap they are using.

From memory all Arnold Clark paint repairs are done at their bodyshop in Murray street Paisley. Personally I wouldn't let them near and get them to pay for the repair at another bodyshop. They are the closest dealer to me but I would rather travel down south before buying a car from them, thankfully I use Henry's in Glasgow

Thanks for the heads up Allan, I'm waiting on the manager calling me tomorrow to discuss the issue. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he were to try and absolve themselves of any responsibility.

I'm hoping that regardless of who ends up having to do the job that it doesn't require a paint job as I'm not overly keen on getting a partial or full respray on such a highly visible part of the car.

Agree with above...I never let anyone do any cleaning of my car - It's me or it stays dirty...for obvious reasons. I have seen the damage dealers' valeters can inflict. Good luck with this.

My son picked up some good stuff at the Svag National show today to do with car care, few different companies involved selling various cleaning and detailing equipment so he treated both of us to some kit. He also spent a good bit of time speaking to some of the lads at the show who are big on detailing so as to know how to at least make a fist of it.

After having the car scratched I am of the same opinion, it will either be us who clean it or it will be dirty.

Any issues with them contact skoda UK customer service. A decent bodyshop will be able to repaint the bonnet but with it being rally green it will need blended. Again I wouldn't let AC bodyshop touch it if it was my car I would rather it went to Glasgow audi bodyshop in Hillington or Mitchell inglis over on South Street.

I will keep this in mind.

However, as many will have noted, this is the day when the manager of AC Skoda Linwood was to call me to discuss how they were going to make things right. He never called, so I will be into him like a dog eating beetroot tomorrow morning, and if no joy, back onto my friend Caroline at Skoda UK, who I would imagine will be equally pleased to hear from me again.

I've been out and tried the finger nail test, and on some parts you can feel it with your nail. Its over 16" long.

If you can feel it with your finger nail I would have thought it will need the bonnet resprayed. Hope you get it fixed buddy. I was asked to leave that particular dealership by the sales manager as he didn't like me questioning the salesman.

Keep the repair in the VAG family and make sure the dealer is billed direct. This ensures that any warranty is maintained.

Arnold Clark are an approved VW bodyshop that's why I think they will want to do the work themselves. But I think they should also pay for it to go to another/better bodyshop like Glasgow Audi lol

Well there is an update of sorts.

I had to contact the Service Manager yesterday as it appeared they had forgotten to get in touch. To be fair there was no quibbling on his part just an expressed wish to rectify the problem for us, at a time and date suitable to us subject to his paint guy being available, and with a free courtesy car for us.

I've made clear my views on what I expect re finish required and insistence on proper paint shop job if indeed a respray, partial or otherwise, is required.

I'm still waiting however on dates that his paint guy is available so that I can arrange the fix.

Sounds as though they are gonna get a smart repair done. Hope all goes well with the repair

Me too, particularly given it's the bonnet that's affected and therefore most noticeable. If it's not up to standard I won't let it go. I have to give them the chance first though, and I am crossing everything hoping for a good job well done.

Sittingbull,

Sorry to hear of your current dealer induced plight.

Sounds like you have a solution shortly , so hope you get a quality finish.

So it's now just about sorting the engine issues now then.

Car goes in next Friday so let's hope for a good ending to this.

As for the engine issues, that could be another story for another day.

Quick update to advise we took the car into the dealer today as agreed, and now have the car back looking very good. Well pleased with how we were looked after by the dealer today to be fair to them, Free courtesy car with fuel, Skoda Rapid Spaceback with diesel engine, and fuel in our own car.

That sounds like a happy ending, I'll bet you're relieved!

I never ever let dealers wash my car. There's no way I'd want some one taking a brush or sponge with all the grit and crap from the wheels of the last car he washed and dragging it all over mine.

I make a point of having them note it on the jobsheet and I leave a 'no wash' sign on the dash and on the driver's seat.

Glad you got it sorted

Good to see you are happy with the end result!
