Servicing Costs

Featured Replies

My 2 year old  Fabia 1.2 TSI is approaching 40k, the first services were done free as part of the Finance so this is the first paid one. Calling a local dealer in Croydon I was quoted £259 and if I wanted the spark plugs replaced it would be £392.

£400 for what is basically a oil and filter change, pollen filter, air filter (not sure) and  spark plugs plus a general look over seems a lot of money to me and what really rankles is that if the car was 3 years old they would do all that for £249.

My boss who'll be paying the bill gets his Jag serviced for less. Is this really the going rate?

Some VW Dealers might do that same Service for £249 & including plugs £299

Major Inspection Service.

As you say, Oil & Filter, Pollen Filter,  best check if the Air Filter is being changed.

Just a look see.

In the case of the car having Rear Drum Brakes, the Drums should be coming off, Cleaned & Inspected.

That Spark Plug Change Price Quoted at the Skoda Dealership is Ridiculous.

At 3 years old, it is a Minor Service & you need the Brake Fluid Changed.

?

Is your car on Variable Servicing and Oil & Filter change at 20,000 miles.

How long is showing on the dash until service required.?

An absolutely shocking rip-off!

Have you considered sourcing spark-plugs, oil, oil filter, sump plug and washer, air filter, etc. privately and getting the work done by a trusted, reputable local independent?

I figure that this might impact adversely on your warranty, despite probably being done to a higher standard than at a franchised dealer employing "interns".

It does not Impact on the Manufacturers Warranty when the Correct Parts are used by a VAT Registered Workshop.

& one you can trust.

Independent VAG Specialist can even supply the correct parts, and have on License the VAG Software to do the Diagnostics & ECU Updates.

A word of Warning.

A Member here had a VW Independent Service his 1.2 TSI just the other week,

& they put in totally the wrong oil.

Which he had to have Removed.

It will be VW 504 00 Long Life Oil required if the car is staying on Variable Servicing.

no it's on the fixed service interval, when purchased new it appeared to be on the variable which looked good as it showed about 18000 miles to the first service. But as the first 3 services were included when it went in at 10000 miles this somehow changed to a fixed interval (presumably so the dealer gets more service business). As I do a high mileage and used my 3 free services after 18 months  time related items like pollen filter didn't get done (it's in the small print).

Having previously run Citroens and Fiats and we also have Kia and Hyundai in the office the costs seem high, they would put me off buying one as a private purchase. I have found some Fiat dealers quite happy to do a service at the lower price regardless of the cars age.

Having nipped out to check the service book in the car it is very vague about what should be done when, aside from the oil and filter it lists about 10 other things which appear optional, rather looks like it's made up as they go along.

After being given a price for the service and finding out this didn't include plugs (not that they knew if they should be done at 40k or not) they looked up the price of the plug change in the book and added it on - I know plugs are a bit dearer now than when I was young (4 for £1 in my day) but £133 for changing 4 spark plugs !

The OME Sparks are £40 as Parts for a 1.4 TSI and Skoda Dealers Quote about £90-£110 to change them including plugs.

Maybe try a VW Dealership and ask the cost of the Service,

but go in & take the Service Book with you & go through what is Needed,

Basically & Major Service & Spark Plugs and see what is quoted.

The same at the Skoda Dealer might get the Correct Price,

not the silly price someone on the Phone got typing into the Computer,  they appear to be £100 out in their favour.

There is a Service Plan Offer on just now. (Another one.)

& Only Yesterday i received a Skoda Servicing Offer for 'Angling Andy'.

I binned it, so can not say what it was.

But 'Angling Andy', looked just like another Actor like 'Baritone Barry' was on the National Pricing Adverts.

Not sure he would know what Oil to use.

You might get that Price bettered by them not being a Participating Dealer.

& maybe tell them Vacuum & Wash not required.

Your Washer Bottle is Full, & do not charge you Environmental Charge to dispose of the Oil & Filter,

they are a Garage, thats what they do, and they get paid for the burst oil.

My vrs is on 16500 miles next service is due 18000miles as indicated on the computer. what will this include anyone..

If it is on Variable Servicing it is Long Life Oil & Oil Filter & Plug.

How old,

and is this the First Service?

They might pick a price, any price.

See what they say, Minor Service, Inspection Service,  is it getting a Pollen Filter change ?.

It will be much the same what ever, Fluids checked, Tyres,Brakes,  Locks, Lights Wipers etc etc. Visual Checks

40 Point Health Check, Diagnostics checked, Enhancments & Software update & Report.

Its on a november 62 reg. It will be 2nd service. Just came off the phone to my local skoda garage. They said at 18000 miles its a major service and i checked it included plugs. £210 pound all in.

Nonsense from them.   BUT IF THEY WILL DO IT AT THAT PRICE, BARGAIN.

Do they know properly what car it is?

The Service Schedule for the Spark Plugs changed is  @ 40,000 miles,

unless reduced now for a Twincharger, which it should be IMO.

No way can they supply plugs, change them, do a Major Service 'Inspection Service',

done with Long Life Oil for £210 & make a Profit / Living.

The Usual Skoda, VW prices are

3.6 liters Long Life VW 504  about £40 - £45

Filter about £8

Pollen Filter about £18

Plug £2

Spark Plugs £40 - £45      So about £100 parts minimum, plus VAT,  £120.

Usually there will be Washer Fluid Bottle as well at about £4.

I also thought this was quite cheap? . When i book it in. Il get an exact breakdown of what is included in that

Have booked in to the only other sensibly located Skoda garage at £ 380. However, they were able to rattle off a complete list of things to be done including oil, air and pollen filters, spark plugs, removing rear drums which inspired a bit more confidence.  Still interesting that in a years time I would get the same work done for £250. This is of course Outer London rates and no doubt servicing can be a lot cheaper the further out you are.
