Help Skoda Fabia 1.2 2003 Sounds like a boyracers car

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am a newbie here, so please be gentle.

My Skoda Fabia 1.2 2003 reg, which has done 85000 miles, has suddenly become very very loud, it sounds like a souped up boyracers car, apart from this it runs perfectly, just completed a round trip from Hythe in Kent to Sheffield with no problems.

Could it be a hole in the exhaust or anything worse, if anybody knows of a good independent in Kent, this would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Martin

Sounds like exhaust has broke.

Hi Hutch,

Thanks for the reply, you sure like the Fabia, would you say from your experience that this is going to be a costly fix, and is it best to get a Skoda independent to fix, or any garage will do.

welders, any garage should be able to repair it. Could be as simple as a quick weld of a small hole, fairly cheap fix.

My 1.2 had the flexi bit on down pipe go! Just went on to car parts 4less and bought a new one then up on my ramps and fitted the new one :)

Thanks for your replies Ben and Toxi, i will take it into my local garage tomorrow and see what they say.

Took my fabia along to 2 garages today, they both told me as you said Toxi, the flex needs replacing, the first garage quoted me £145, the second, which was recommended to me, was £82, needless to say, i have gone with the second, although i am a little worried that it may be something worse that needs fixing, as when going uphill it is so loud.

Thanks for all your advice.

Broken flexi makes for a very loud engine.  Doubt there's anything else wrong. :sun:

going up hill needs more power. so more throttle. more throttle means more loudness

Yeah mine was really loud going up hills! Sounded like a tractor!

Thanks for the advice everyone, mine definitely sounds like a tractor, its quite funny seeing the faces on people as you drive past.

I know it's great! Go through a high street knock it down a gear and just watch the faces
