it says that new Superb will be announced in Geneva autoshow next spring. It will be lower, wider and will have longer wheel base. It will use B8 platform and the engines as new Passat - 190 HP diesel and 280 HP petrol. 

 

Also there is rumors about hybrid version with 211 HP and 2l/100 km consumption.

I think the 1.6 diesel engine is fine as long as you treat it like a 1.6 diesel and not expect it to try and perform like a a bigger engine.

Indeed, they are small to be frugal, not fast. If you aren't gonna break 60mph ever again in your life (retired or on a very very tight budget) then it's the engine of choice.

Me, I like the 2.0ltr TDi's breadth of strengths, torque, power and economy. Not sure if I could drop down a size unless I was having to seriously tighten the purse strings. If I had to i know that it would do the job well if not as quickly.
