I'm swaying towards the Ibiza ,I'm going to try to have a look at a few today/the weekend

Said he enjoyed the diesel torque though - who can argue - it's gives a more enjoyable buzz than a high revving na petrol IMO!

On a back road give me a teg type r dc2 or ep3 civic type r anyday

Torque is only really fun on a bike....wheelie.gif

Plus a 10-15k redline mwhahahaha.

I hadn't realized the Ibizas were that cheap.... Or were available that cheap. In which case a 3 door with a remap and a RARB would go OK. What it won't do is let you charge up to junctions to stop. You'd need to do serious work on the brakes for that. On the flip side, having to nurse the brakes somewhat means the MPG stays far higher.

If I was looking for a cheap back road and track car is look no further than a 106 GTi/Rallye. Quick little cars, handle brilliantly and you can have a LOT of fun in them. Parts are extremely cheap, lower the torsion bar, stick some springs on the front and a front lower strut brace couples with a Supersprint or Pugsport exhaust and you're good to go. Althought it is hard too come by a nice one these days after all the 18 year old chavs have them.

First things I'll be looking to do are 312 brakes, rearARB and a remap. After a good service and brake fluid change of course.

I'd have thought that with 312mm brakes and decent pads this would be fine for fast road use and maybe the odd trackday.

As I've said in earlier posts I'm after the torque of a tuned diesel rather than having to rev a na petrol motor and whilst I appreciate that some of the cars mentioned, GTI Pugs and some of the Hondas etc are no doubt faster and handle better they just don't appeal.

I am no stranger to high revving petrol motors including a Caterham 7 Superlight R with effectively a race spec VHPD K series and more recently an Elise.

It may be that the Caterham spoiled things in so far as it really was the 'essence' of back road motoring. I'm not saying it was the fastest car ever but few would stay with it. Once at a trackday I managed in a session to lap my brother in his 996 Turbo. As a result most performance cars fail to live up to this. So I now look for something 'different' and for me that is diesel torque.

Id go ibiza fr. Substantially cheaper and much better spec too.

Interior quality is not the best however neither are fabia vrs'

Will also be selling my fr soon. Has a great spec inc factory xenons.
