new MAF in and reset the fault codes.

Have to give it some time to see if the same codes appear now. Last 3 times it was the 3rd day of driving. Fingers crossed!!

the 12.99 diagnostic tool worked a treat. Brought up the same codes as the garage straight away after plugging it in. Erased them and drove away to test.

Would anyone recommend disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU or will it learn in a few cycles on its own with the new MAF?

(unfortunately I haven't found the radio code if I do this!)

positive test run so far.

No pinging under heavy acceleration! Gear changes occurred at a higher rev range when accelerating also.

too early to tell if it is fixed yet though.

5 days of driving and all is still well. I think the ECU is learning and the car is feeling more responsive. No pinging whatsoever now and the engine warning light is still off (knock on wood)! Great!

Next job I want to tackle is to clean the throttle plate/intake. Get rid of all the black grunge from the oil vapor intake.
