Fabia 1.4 2002 oil warning light

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My Skoda Fabia 1.4 petrol 2002 just started showing the red oil warning light. It comes on when i rev up above 2000 rpms, and when i let it idle it goes off again. I tried pulling the plug of the pressure switch, but the same thing is happening.

Hope you can help.

With the pressure switch connector unplugged, measure voltage at the loom connector, relative to battery negative, while ignition is switched on. (Try this with engine both below and above 1500-2000 rpm, but I think you'll get the same reading).

If it is zero volts, there is a break in that wire somewhere between the connector and the monitoring circuit inside the car (mend it and your problem will likely be solved).

If there is a voltage there, you may have a real problem with oil pressure; get it measured before driving any more if at all possible.

Also possible/probable is that the oil pressure switch has failed so it is always non-conducting (whatever happens with the oil pressure). You could measure this; with engine off you should find that the switch's connector pin is not connected to 0V/battery negative, but with engine running above about 1500, it should be close to zero Ohms to battery negative/chassis ground.

Thanks alot for the advice. I found out that i pulled the plug right next to the oil filter, which is not the pressure switch but something else. I pulled the right plug, and found it full of oil. I blew it out, and now the light doesnt come on. I probably have to change the switch still. Thanks heaps for your reply, very much appreciated!

Ah, well done. Oil pressure switch failure is often, but not always, accompanied by oil coming out through it.  Replace the switch and you should be OK.  :)
